International insurance organizations

International insurance organizations are a kind of international financial organizations created on the basis of intergovernmental and other agreements for solving various issues of the global insurance market development, coordinating the activities of insurers in different countries of the world [1] . Participants in such international organizations are both state organizations of various countries and non-state national organizations of insurance professionals.

Below is a list of well-known international insurance organizations indicating the goals of their creation and some other information related to their activities.

International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS )

Established in 1994, headquartered in Basel , Switzerland

Goals

  • Collaborate to implement improvements in insurance supervision procedures at both the national and international levels to maintain an effective, fair, reliable and stable insurance market to the benefit and to protect policyholders .
  • Promote the development of well-regulated insurance markets .
  • Contributing to global financial stability.

The International Credit Insurance & Surety Association (ICISA )

The International Credit Insurance Association was founded in 1946. The headquarters is located in Zurich . About twenty insurers from 15 countries are members of the organization.

Goals

  • Promoting the application of uniform export credit insurance coverage
  • Study and comparison of export credit insurance practices in different countries
  • Training domestic exporters from different countries to use export credit insurance

MASK does a lot of work to exchange experience and information, to establish links between companies engaged in insurance of short-term export loans.

International Association of Mutual Insurance Societies - IAIAS

The International Association of Mutual Insurance Societies was founded in 1963. The headquarters is in Amsterdam . The General Secretariat is located in Paris . The association unites more than 200 mutual insurance societies (OVS) of 26 countries.

Goals

  • Coordination of activities, exchange of experience and information between mutual insurance societies of different countries

MAOVS represents the interests of its members in international organizations of the EEC , UNCTAD , develops cooperation with national federations of mutual insurance societies of individual countries. The highest body of the IAEAF is the general meeting of the members of the association (it meets once every 2 years), which elects the Committee of the IAEAA, the highest governing body of the association (2 representatives from each member country). The IAEA Committee elects the membership of the IAEA Board, which manages the association’s activities between the Committee’s meetings. The Association’s General Secretariat is formed, which coordinates the current activities of the association and organizes the work of the permanent working groups on mutual insurance issues within the General Market, taxation and financial Sustainability of OVS, harmonization of national legislation on the activities of OVS, international cooperation, publishing awns.

MAOVS publishes specialized periodicals covering a wide range of problems of the methodology and practical aspects of the activities of mutual insurance societies.

International Association of Insurance and Reinsurance Intermediaries - BIPAR

The organization is an association of insurance agents , insurance brokers and other intermediaries related to the insurance business. Founded in 1937. The headquarters is located in Paris . The organization represents 225 insurance agents and brokers, as well as their regional organizations.

Goals

  • Promoting international contacts and exchange of information between insurance market intermediaries
  • Conducting research on acquisition , marketing in insurance

The organization works closely with government circles in several countries. The supreme body is the annual general assembly, periodically international congresses of the organization are held.

International Association for Insurance Research - MASI

It is an association of the scientific community engaged in research in the theory and practice of insurance. One of the central research questions is risk analysis and insurance. Associate members of MASI are the presidents and CEOs of the 16 largest insurance companies in the United States and Western Europe. The organization was founded in 1973. Headquarters is located in Geneva .

  • Contributing to advances in insurance research and related fields
  • Spreading Insurance Knowledge
  • Promoting the growth of public prestige insurer profession
  • Organization and supervision of special scientific programs related to the insurance business

MASI regularly holds scientific and practical conferences, seminars, symposia on insurance issues. It has an extensive insurance library. Publishes a number of periodicals. Awarded honorary prizes and awards to authors of scientific publications and research on insurance issues.

International Actuarial Association (IAA )

The organization was founded in 1895 in connection with the first International Congress of Actuaries in Belgium. Headquarters is located in Brussels .

Goals

  • Implementation of international cooperation and coordination of the activities of national associations of actuaries of a number of countries, including at the preparatory stage of international congresses of actuaries .
  • Promotion of research in the field of insurance mathematics

International Insurance Society - IOM

The Society for Risk Analysis, SRA

It is an organization in the field of application of a risk analysis methodology for the purpose of optimizing decisions in various fields of scientific and practical activity. It was founded in 1981 in the USA. Unites more than 2500 members. The organizational unit of the organization is the Executive Committee of the European Society for Risk Analysis (about 200 members).

Goals

  • Identification of various types of dangers, their analysis and identification of ways and methods of making such decisions that would ensure safe living and sustainable development of society
  • Development of solutions to the issues of risk analysis of human health
  • Development of a hierarchical model for assessing the risk of environmental disasters

International Federation of Cooperative Insurance - IFRS

It is an association of cooperative insurance organizations. It unites cooperative insurance organizations of 37 countries.

Goals

  • Promoting international cooperation in insurance and reinsurance between the IFX participants, as well as in the exchange of information by specialists.
  • Organization of internships for specialists
  • Organizational, technical and financial assistance in the formation of cooperative insurance infrastructure in developing countries.

IFX works closely with the International Cooperative Alliance. Conducts technical seminars and other forms of training for staff of cooperative insurance organizations. It publishes a number of periodicals.

European Insurance Committee

Unites 33 national associations of representatives of the European insurance business.

Goals

Coordination of insurance and pre-insurance activities.

Berne Union

International Union of Credit and Investment Insurers.

It unites about 50 insurance companies engaged in export credit insurance .
