Kia cee'd succeeded Kia Cerato in Europe. Kia positions cee'd as a European car designed for Europe and manufactured in Europe. In the lineup, Kia ranks between Rio and Optima .
Development and History
The first prototype of the production version, called Kia cee'd , was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in the spring of 2006. The design of the production model was developed under the abbreviation ED (European Design) by a German design firm in Rüsselsheim .
The first images of the pro_cee'd concept were published on September 20, 2006. The final production model was presented at the September 2006 Paris Motor Show, along with two further versions: pro_cee'd , a three-door version and cee'd sw , a station wagon version. The seed product line was developed specifically for Europe and is being produced at the new Kia Motors factory in илиilina - Kia Motors Slovakia .
The first cee'd model with a redesigned liquefied natural gas engine is unveiled at Auto Mobil International 2007.
At the 2008 London Motor Show, Kia Motors introduced the excee'd prototype cabriolet . The design was done by Peter Schreyer ( German: Peter Schreyer ), who had previously developed the design of cars such as the Audi TT and VW New Beetle .
Name Origin
The name cee'd is pronounced as the English word seed - seed (English seed). In English advertising, this pun is played out. The name comes from the abbreviation of the words European Community fr. Communauté européenne (CE) and European Design (ED) or from English. Community of Europe and European Design . The prototype was called "ED".

On December 7, 2006, the first production car rolled off the assembly line at the new Kia Motors Slovakia plant in the Slovak city of Zilina . [1] The plant employs 2,600 people in two shifts, along with automobiles it also produces diesel engines.
A month earlier than planned, on July 20, 2007, cee'd_sw came off the assembly line. In the first week of production, more than 1,000 cars were manufactured. Most of the cars were delivered to the 5 most important European Kia partners. The first produced SW went to the Italian buyer.
On October 12, 2007, the 100,000th Kia cee'd rolled off the assembly line in Zilina. [2] On October 25, 2007, production of the three-door pro_cee'd began , 6 weeks ahead of schedule. pro_cee'd along with two other cee'd models and the Kia Sportage is the fourth Kia model made in Europe. [3]
On May 23, 2008, the 200,000th Kia cee'd car rolled off the assembly line [4] . Kia cee'd shares with the Hyundai i30, which appeared in July 2007, a new platform and technical basis. They put the same engines and gearboxes.
In 2009, the model was restyled. His main goal was to fit the car under the new, corporate style of the company. In particular, the lighting, the grille and the interior have changed .
Engines and gearboxes
All six engines are installed across the front of the car, drive the front wheels, equipped with traction control . Engines have four cylinders and 16 valves. The engine housing is cast from aluminum , which gives a gain of about 15 kg. Petrol and diesel engines comply with the Euro-4 environmental standard. The engine temperature is kept constant thanks to a closed cooling system .
Gasoline engines
All gasoline engines - CVVTs , have aluminum bodies, two camshafts located at the top of the head block and are driven by a chain (for engines of 1.4 and 1.6 liters) or a belt (for engines with a volume of 2.0 liters ) Engines are equipped with conventional injection and non - contact ignition system . Exhaust through a three-stage catalytic converter .
- 1.4 liter four-cylinder with a displacement of 1396 cm³ and a power of 73 kW (105 hp ) or (109 hp)
- 1.6 liter four-cylinder with a displacement of 1591 cm³ and a capacity of 95 kW (122 hp)
- A 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a displacement of 1975 cm³ and a capacity of 105 kW (143 hp)
Diesel engines
CRDi: D4FB engines with Common Rail diesel injection.
- The 1.6-liter diesel engine is a completely new development of the Rüsselheim (Germany) Hyundai | KIA Research Center, implemented in conjunction with BOSCH and the headquarters in Korea. Available at the Kia Motors Slovakia factory. They, like the 2.0 liter engine, are turbocharged with variable turbine geometry (VGT). The block is cast iron. A chain is used to drive the camshafts in the engine. The exhaust is equipped with a catalytic converter and a particulate filter (depending on the market) and meets the environmental standard [Euro-4/5]. Since 2007, the engine has been a leader in terms of among its own similar serial motors.
- 2.0 liter engine from Kia Carens . Uses a belt instead of a chain and is made in South Korea .
- 1.6 liter CRDi four-cylinder with 1582 cm³ displacement and a capacity of 66 kW (90 hp)
- 1.6 liter CRDi four-cylinder with 1582 cm³ displacement and a capacity of 85 kW (115 hp) (from March 2007
- 1.6 liter CRDi four-cylinder with 1582 cm³ displacement and power of 94 kW (122 hp) (from March 2008)
- 2.0 liter CRDi four-cylinder since 1991 cm³ displacement and a capacity of 103 kW (140 hp) (since July 2007)
Gas engines
Three gasoline engines can be used from April 2007 to use liquefied petroleum gas. Gas models (LPG) have the following differences: additional metal gas tank, which takes the place of a spare wheel ; gas injection valves; liquefied gas evaporation system; LPG electronics and switch from gas to gasoline. Instead of a spare tire, a means for quickly fixing a damaged tire is placed in the trunk. According to Kia, the installation cost is amortized over 68 thousand km.
Gearbox
- 5-speed manual transmission (only for 1.4, 1.6 and 2.0)
- 6-speed manual transmission (1.4, 1.6 and 2.0)
- 4-speed automatic transmission (possible with 1.6 and 2.0)
Manual transmissions have a number of innovations, including their three-axis gear transmission and plate synchronizer (for the first and second gears), which allows you to quickly and accurately change gears. In addition, the manual transmission has a system that prevents accidental reverse gear.
Steering and braking
All versions have a speed-dependent steering system, an electromechanical power steering (MDPS) with rack and pinion steering. At 2.69 - 2.86 turns of the steering wheel (depending on speed) the car turns around in diameter of 10.3 - 10.8 meters.
The chassis has, in addition to the wishbones of independent suspension, McPherson chassis struts with gas-filled shock absorbers and stabilizers. They work together with an independent suspension of wheels. The steering axle should provide adequate comfort. Ground clearance is 150 mm.
A dual-circuit hydraulic brake system with a dual-circuit drive controls: in front ventilated brake discs with a diameter of 280 mm; behind brake disks with a diameter of 262 mm. The brake system includes ABS , EBD , BAS and a brake servo as standard. For an emergency stop of the car at a speed of 100 km / h you need 38.7 - 39.7 meters .

Car Kia cee′d has a list of safety features. This was confirmed by testing Euro NCAP , where Kia cee'd received five of the five stars possible in frontal impact thanks to a special body structure that allows energy to be absorbed in seven directions. All available Kia cee′d trim levels include ABS with an integrated brake force distribution (EBD) system, ESP is available on older trim levels. Among the passive safety features, all configurations include 4 airbags, a fuel cut-off system in a collision, and three-point height-adjustable seat belts with pretensioners.
Service Campaigns
In mid-June 2010, Kia announced the withdrawal of about 56,000 cee′d hatchbacks equipped with ESP dynamic stabilization system. Over time, these vehicles may experience a decrease in the effectiveness of the braking force, which is fraught with the occurrence of dangerous and even emergency situations on the road. The review included cars manufactured from April 1, 2008 to March 30, 2009 by the Slovak factory, as well as cars assembled by Kaliningrad Avtotor. The service campaign is declared unlimited.
Body Options
Immediately after the appearance on the market, only a five-door hatchback version was offered. Since September 2007, the station wagon version became available - Sporty Wagon (cee'd_sw). In December 2007, a “sports” version with a three-door hatchback body appeared on the market - pro_cee'd. All versions are distinguished by various design details, while the front panel all have one.
