Two years after the bloody massacre at Woodsboro. At the cinema, the premiere of the film “stab with a knife”, filmed based on these events. A couple of Phil Stevens and Maureen Evans come to watch this movie. Phil goes to the toilet and hears strange sounds in a nearby booth. He leans his ear against the dividing wall to hear them better. Suddenly, a killer in a suit and mask A ghostly face in a neighboring booth plunges a knife into the wall. A blade pierces steel and goes deep into Phil's head. The killer puts on his jacket and goes to the auditorium. He sits down next to Maureen, and she takes him for Phil. Then she spots blood on his jacket and the killer sticks a knife into her stomach. Maureen, in fear, tries to leave, but the maniac overtakes her and inflicts a few more wounds. The audience in the hall perceives this as a rally. The girl, bleeding, rises to the screen, screaming with all her strength and falls dead.

Sidney Prescott - the main character of the first part, is studying at Windsor College and is trying to forget the horrors that happened to her while studying at Woodsboro High School. The next morning after the premiere of "Knife stab" she learns from the news about what happened in the cinema, as well as the fact that Cotton Weiri, previously unjustly convicted of the murder of her mother, was released from prison. Sidney arrives at her old friend Dewey Riley, who works as an assistant to the sheriff. He believes that Billy Loomis and Stu Masher got a copycat and asks Sydney to be extremely careful.

Neighbor Sidney - Haley persuades her to go to a party, and she, reluctantly, agrees. At the very height of the party, the same killer kills Sisi Cooper, who was in the next house alone. Everyone escapes to the crime scene, and Sydney is left alone in the house. The maniac phoned her on the phone and soon attacked. Sidney manages to run out. On the street, she encounters her boyfriend Derek, and he rushes after the killer, but gets wounded in the arm. The attacker himself is hiding.

A few days later, Dewey, Gale, and Randy are discussing all these killings in the schoolyard. Suddenly a maniac calls them, and it turns out that he is watching them. Gail and Dewey begin to look for him among the closest people in the yard, while Randy at this time maintains a telephone conversation. He walks up to Gale’s wagon and begins to insult Billy Loomis during the conversation. Suddenly, the van door opens and the killer abruptly drags Randy there. Killing a guy, he leaves the suit and mask in the car, and leaves. Arriving Dewey and Gale find Randy's bloodied corpse.

Sidney is in the college library at this time. She receives a letter from the computer with threats from the killer. She runs from the hall and in the hallway collides with Cotton. He asks Sydney to give a joint interview to the TV channel, but receives a refusal and starts screaming. The police guarding Sidney are arresting him. In the area after a little interrogation, Cotton is released. The sheriff decides to transport Sydney and Haley to a safe place.

Late in the evening, they, accompanied by two detectives, leave the student dormitory. When the car stops at a traffic light, a killer appears. He instantly breaks the glass, cuts the throat of the first policeman, climbs over the roof and beats the second. Then the maniac gets behind the wheel, presses on the gas and knocks down the wounded cop. He threatens the killer with a pistol through the windshield and asks to stop. But the maniac crashes into a pile of pipes and boards, and they smear the head of the detective. The killer himself loses consciousness from a collision. Sidney and Haley are forced to get out of the car through it through a broken window. With great difficulty and fear they succeed. Ten meters from the car, Sidney turns around and tells Haley that she needs to find out who is hiding under the mask. The girl approaches the car, but the maniac is no longer there. He appears behind Haley and kills her. Sidney manages to escape.

Derek is caught at night by drunk classmates and tied naked to a big star - props from the theater. Then the teens leave, and Derek is left alone in the middle of the street. In the meantime, Dewey and Gale decide to look through the records of her cameraman in the hope of finding a killer in the frame. For the sake of this, they go to the main film studio of the city. While watching the recordings, their feelings flare up and they are going to have sex. Suddenly, Gail notices that the second screen does not display frames from her films, and immediately - on which they themselves are captured in real time. From above, they notice a killer watching them. Dewey runs upstairs. After a few seconds, the maniac appears behind Gail, and she runs away from him. Gale enters a room with very thick glass. After some time, Dewey appears on the other side, he calls her, but the glass does not miss the sounds. A maniac appears behind Dewey and stabs him several times with a knife, but Dewey manages to get Gail's attention by calling her on the microphone. Then the killer tries to break through to her, breaking the glass, but he does not succeed. In a panic, Gail does not notice the moment when the maniac disappears.

Sidney runs to the film studio, to the hall where theatrical art classes take place. She sees Derek tied up on stage and tries to untie him. Suddenly a killer appears and finally takes off his mask, showing his face. It turns out to be Mickey - Sydney's classmate. He tells her that Derek is his accomplice. She does not know who to believe, and Derek asks to untie him. Suddenly Mickey shoots a guy. The corpse of Derek rises up.

Gail appears, she is kept on the sight of Debbie Salt - the same annoying journalist. It turns out that she is the mother of Billy Loomis and intends to avenge Sydney for the death of her son. Mickey was her assistant, they met on the forum for maniacs. She shoots Mickey more unnecessary to her, and he at the last moment manages to get into Gail. Sidney and Mrs. Loomis are left face to face. At the height of the fight, Cotton appears. Sydney promises to give him a great interview for the TV channel, and then he kills Loomis. Sidney and Cotton pull Gail out of the pit. But then Mickey jumps in, whom everyone thought was dead. Sidney and Gale shoot him. Sidney then walks over to Mrs. Loomis and gives her a control shot in the head.

At the end, the rescue service arrives and it turns out that Dewey remains alive. He and Gail are taken to the hospital. Sidney gives Cotton the promised fame when another group of reporters runs up to her.

Creation History

Script

The plot twists of the script were carefully hidden - only the main actors, producers, the director, the heads of the studios and the scriptwriter could read the script. However, no one knew who the killer would be, since the last 10 pages of the script were missing. But in an incomprehensible way, this version of the script got on the Internet, which is why Kevin Williamson had to rewrite both the ending of the script and some of its scenes, and had to be rewritten already during the filming. The last 10 pages of the script, containing the ending of the film and the name of the killer, were printed on special gray paper that was protected against photocopying. All actors in the film signed a special contract for non-disclosure of information about the plot and the name of the killer. In the first version of the script, there were 4 different maniacs - Mrs. Loomis, Derek, Haley and Cotton. The plot of the second part was invented by Williamson while working on the script of the first picture.

Casting

  • Sarah Michelle Gellar agreed to take part in the filming of the film without even reading the script.
  • When casting for the role of Derek, special criteria were used for selecting an actor - everyone had to sing the song “I Think I Love You”, which Derek sings to Sydney in the cafeteria.
  • Eric Mabius , Natasha Gregson Wagner and Paula Marshall also participated in the casting for the film.
  • A special contest arranged by MTV was held for the role of doorman in the cinema. As a result of this competition, the role was won by Flight Patterson.

Cameo Roles

  • In the background during a student party, you can see Matthew Lillard , who played in the first part of the maniac Stuart Mayher trilogy.
  • The journalist interviewing Cotton was played by the film's screenwriter Kevin Williamson.
  • The film's director Wes Craven played the doctor in the background at the hospital.
  • In the crowd of people in the cinema, you can see actress Rose McGowan , who played Sydney's girlfriend, Tatum Riley, in the first film .
  • The voice of the friend CC speaks on the phone before the killer calls belongs to actress Selma Blair .

Filming

  • Filming took place from June 16, 1997 to August 28, 1997 - 6 months after the first picture was released.
  • Most of the various voices that sound in the film were recorded not during the filming period, but at the post - production stage. However, Roger Jackson, who voiced the killer’s voice (indicated in the credits simply as Voice ), called the actors on a cell phone right during the filming of the corresponding scene at the request of Wes Craven to create tension. At the same time, he was in a place in which the actor did not see him.
  • Many on-site filming took place at Agnes Scott's College of Women, located in Atlanta, Georgia. However, Gothic statues were brought for the filming of the film. The statues were constantly under guard, but joker students managed to dress them in dresses several times.
