Makhachkala trolley bus

The construction of a trolleybus depot for 75 cars began in 1968 and completed in 1971. During 1971-1972, work was carried out on the construction of a street contact network and an energy economy.

In December 1972, the first test flight was completed. The official opening of the trolleybus movement in Makhachkala took place on February 13, 1973. The first trolleybus was led by Galina Rodina.

In 1986-1990, the construction of a trolleybus depot No. 2 for 200 cars was carried out in the village of Semender (behind the Severny bus station). The depot was not commissioned.

Until the early 1990s, the trolleybus economy was developing rapidly, the number of routes reached 12.

In the 1990s, a crisis broke out at the enterprise, there was a reduction in trolleybus services: 7 routes were closed, part of the contact network was dismantled. In 2004-2005, due to the reconstruction on Yaragsky Street, route 2 was closed, the contact network on Yaragsky Street was dismantled, route 7 was closed in the same years. In 2009, route No. 4 was closed, after the route was closed No. 4, route No. 6 was extended to the final stop on Comintern Square, where the last stop of route No. 4 was earlier, but it was extended inappropriately. In 2010, the contact network on Mirzabekova Street (Ordzhonikidze) was dismantled and route No. 6 was again reduced to the final stop of ul. Mayakovsky.

Since the late 2000s, the trolleybus movement in the city begins to revive. A line is being laid to the city of Kaspiysk; in March 2010, 20 new ZiU-682G-016 .05 brand trolleybuses were purchased.

On February 10, 2011 a new route No. 3 was launched (it repeats the previous route No. 7, but with its continuation to the Reduction village to the Republican publishing house), and on December 7, 2012 a new route No. 12 was launched ^[2] .

In July 2014, 2 units of TrolZa-5275.03 Optima trolleybuses were purchased and commissioned ^[3] .

According to local media, in 2016, the company began a financial crisis ^[4] . A few days later, the power engineers of Dagestan were to disconnect the Makhachkala trolley buses from the power supply ^[5] . However, trolleybus traffic in the city was turned off only in the next 2017, and only for 10 days ^{[6] [7]} . Currently, the trolleybus movement in the city is operating normally.

On January 28, 2017, the Trolza-5265 Megapolis low-floor trolleybus entered the test for two months.

On February 1, 2017, an intercity line was opened to the city of Kaspiysk to the Dagdiesel plant ^{[8] [9]} .

On October 5, 2017, the Makhachkala trolleybus department decided to renumber route No. 3 to No. 327 , and route No. 12 to No. 326 (due to the fact that intercity routes should have a three-digit number).

On July 8, 2018, the first batch of three trolleybuses from Moscow arrived at the trolleybus depot in Makhachkala. They will be operated for another 5 years at least. On August 12, 2018, the second batch of four trolleybuses from Moscow arrived by the end of 2018, eight more trolleybuses from Moscow should arrive. On September 12, 2018, the third batch of three trolleybuses arrived from Moscow. On September 22, 2018, the fourth batch of two trolleybuses arrived from Moscow. On November 30, the last batch of three trolleybuses arrived from Moscow. 8 out of 15 trolleybuses transferred from Moscow have already begun to operate along routes, 7 out of 15 trolleybuses transferred from Moscow are not suitable for use due to corrosion of bodies.

On November 28, 2018, 3 new VMZ-5298.01-50 Avangard trolleybuses with an autonomous run of 30 km arrived. On February 14, 2019 new trolleybuses left on route No. 3 (327) ^[10] . On April 7, another 1 trolleybus of the same brand arrived ^[11] . In March 2019, an agreement was reached between MUE MTU and CJSC TrolZa on the trial operation of the Trolza-5265 Megapolis trolleybus with an updated exterior.
