Petukhov, Mikhail Stepanovich

Mikhail Stepanovich Petukhov (born 1954 , Varna ) is a Russian pianist and composer , Honored Artist of Russia (2002) [1] , professor at the Moscow Conservatory .

Biography

Mikhail Petukhov was born in 1954 in Varna , Bulgaria . Early he began to take piano and composition lessons, and at the age of ten he first presented his compositions to the public. Having moved with his family to Ukraine , Petukhov continued his studies at the Kiev Special Music School [2] . During the years of study he became a laureate of the IV International Competition named after I.S. Bach ( 1972 , Leipzig , III prize). Education continued at the Moscow State Conservatory. P. I. Tchaikovsky [3] according to the class of professor T. P. Nikolaeva . Together with her and her other students (S. Senkov, M. Evseeva) in the season 1975-1976 for the first time presented in Russia all 12 Bach clavier concerts [4] . It was in the conservatory that Mikhail Stepanovich graduated in 1979 that he was lucky to meet the great musicians Dmitry Shostakovich , Svyatoslav Richter , Emil Gilels and others.

In 1975 , Petukhov became a laureate of the VII International Queen Elizabeth Competition in Brussels . This success, in particular, allowed him to perform his own compositions at concerts [2] . After the competition, Mikhail Petukhov received invitations to visit the USA, Europe and Japan with concerts, but because of the political situation in the country, he could not do this until 1988. [2]

Currently, Mikhail Stepanovich combines teaching at the Moscow Conservatory [5] with active concert and composing activities.

In 2015, his student Dmitry Masleev won the XV Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow.
