Geography

The population of Syrostan is declining due to the outflow of the population. The actual area of the village is 254 ha. Part of the territory is occupied by residential and industrial buildings, part is free from development and represents undeveloped fields covered with grass, forest birch spikes and small bushes, as well as swampy lowlands and mountain slopes [2] .

The village stands on the Syrostan River, which forms a system of small ponds in the village, and flows from the northwest to the southeast. On the western side, two streams flow into the river, one of which originates in the Batkin Pokos tract, and the other appears spontaneously during the melting snow and heavy rains.

A kilometer north-east of the village are the railway station and station village of the same name. Three kilometers to the east - Mount Famous with the Sun Valley ski center located on it.

History

It was founded in 1756 as a postal station on the old Siberian highway passing through the village, through which Alexander I , Alexander II , V. A. Zhukovsky and other travelers passed through Syrostan [3] . Later, a transit point arose in Syrostan. During the Civil War, military operations took place here. June 18, 1918 was captured by whites here, and on June 22, one of the organizers of the Red Army in the Urals, Ivan Mikhailovich Malyshev, was shot together with his comrades.

The name of the village came from the Turkic “Sarah” - “yellow” and “camp” - “camp” [4] .

Religion

Holy Cross Exaltation Church

It was founded on May 30, 1882. In the village of Syrostan, seven bells were raised to the new church, of which the largest weighed almost 40 pounds. All bells were made by order of the local society at the factory of the famous Shadrinsk merchant Shishkin. The cost of the bells was calculated at the rate of 18 rubles. silver for poods, but their delivery to the place of permanent residence was carried out at the expense of the manufacturer. (Based on materials from the collections of the local history museum)

A temple was built for believing Cossacks in the village of Syrostan and residents of neighboring villages. The construction was carried out according to the exemplary project of the architect Konstantin Andreyevich Ton and was completed in 1886. The temple is a quadrangle crowned with an onion dome, with a small refectory and tent bell tower. [5] According to the materials of the regional archive of the city of Chelyabinsk and the local history museum of the city of Miass, the date of consecration of the temple is 1895, the first priest is Alexander Petrov.

The temple holds 350-400 believers.

In the period from 1938 to 1995 - was closed. Used for household needs, which led to its destruction. Only the walls and arch were preserved. There were no windows and part of the roof.

The temple was reborn in 1996-97, largely thanks to the help of Nikolai Samodumovdx , the Cossack chieftain. The building was restored, the surrounding area was ennobled and a bust was installed near the entrance to the temple to the last Russian emperor Nicholas II.
