Homeworld 2

Homeworld 2 ( Rus. Hometown 2 ) - a computer game , a strategy on a space theme, the continuation of Homeworld . Developed by Relic Entertainment , published in 2003 by Sierra Entertainment . The game takes place a hundred years after the events of " Homeworld: Cataclysm ", when a new enemy, known only as the Weigers, begins to threaten the Hiigarts. Graphics and audio games are significantly improved compared to the first part. Also, the strategies for playing for the Weigers and Hiigarts are now much different due to significant differences in the tactical and technical characteristics of the ships of both races, in contrast to the almost identical Kushan and Taidan ships in the first part. It should be noted that, although Homeworld: Cataclysm is considered an official addition to the first part, the creators of the second game carefully avoid mentioning it in the second part, due to the controversial innovations of the addition, but at the same time recognize that the events of Homeworld: Cataclysm place in the history of the HW universe.

In 2015, a re-release of a game called Homeworld Remastered Collection was released , which included original parts.

Story

A new menace is approaching the Hiigars. Militant wagers want to take over the entire galaxy. As before, the player controls a huge uterus ship - this time with Hiigara Pride. Hiigara's Pride is not at all the same mother ship from the first part - it is a more advanced ship of the second generation. The role of the command core of the ship is again performed by Karan S'jet. The crew of the Pride of Hiigara will travel to uncharted regions of the galaxy, engaging in battles with a new enemy to find salvation for their race ...

Ship Classes

The game's class system is almost the same as in the first part, with a few additions:

  • Fighters are squadrons of small fighter and assault ships. The Hiigars squadrons consist of 5 fighters, the Weigers - 7.
  • Corvettes are light ships. Heavier and slower than fighters, but better armored and better armed. Squadrons: 3 in each of the Hiigars, and 4 (except for team corvettes) for the Weigers, and one minework corvette for both races.
  • Frigates are an extensive class of the lightest of heavy ships that perform various functions.
  • Heavy ships - shipyard, flagship, carriers, destroyers, battleships.
  • Auxiliary ships - probes, resource-producing ships, mobile refineries.
  • Platforms - hyper-gates, turrets (kinetic, ionic and missile).

Most Hiigarts ships are multi-purpose, while Weigers are more specialized. The Weigra fleet relies on missile weapon systems, and the Hiigar fleet relies on ion beam systems.

Races

There are four main races in the game: Heigari, Weigra, Bentus, and Forerunner.

Hiigrans

Homeworld Cushans returning to their home planet, Hiigaru. Now they are defending their homeland from a new enemy.

Vaygr

Many Weigra technologies resemble Taidan technologies. This is not surprising, since in their crusade the Weigers conquered many civilizations, including the worlds of the former Taidan Empire. The leader of the Weigers, Macaan, is an unrivaled strategist.

Bentusi

An ancient, high-tech race of merchants calling themselves Unbound. All Bentusi are one with their ship. In the second part of the game in the HW galaxy, there was only one Bentusi ship left - their flagship “Bentus” (according to other sources - Harbor ship - Harbor). The fate of the rest is unknown. (Perhaps (and most likely), they were destroyed by the Weigers and their allies. That is, all the other HW Bentusi remaining in the galaxy were destroyed.) Also, according to the story “ Homeworld: Cataclysm ”, many Bentusi fled to another galaxy, driven by fear of the invasion of the Creature.

Forerunners (Progenitors)

This super-powerful and technologically highly developed race died out about 10,000 years before the events of the game. Many artifacts remained from them, including 3 key hyper-nuclei (one of these nuclei is from the Hiigarts, the other from the Weigers, the third from Bentusi).

The remains of the former power of the Forerunner - the invincible unmanned ships - are guarded by one of the two Dreadnoughts - the defenders of Sajuuk. They play one of the important roles in the game. All forerunner ships have incomparably high performance compared to ships of a similar class of Hiigarts / Weigers. Guardian ships are divided into 3 types:

  1. Guardian : class - destroyer / carrier . Armament - a gun, equal in power to the Dreadnought guns. Features - high survivability, the ability to instantly disappear in case of high damage or a significant advantage of the enemy.
  2. Drone : class - fighter / bomber . Armament - a gun, equal in power to the guns of a torpedo frigate. Features - high speed, high maneuverability.
  3. Tractor : class - corvette / worker . Armament - 2 guns in the front part, equal in power to the bomber guns. Features - "dwell" in the wreckage of ancient ships. Attack exclusively by the group, although each unit is autonomous. They are able to tow damaged ships. After studying by the Hiigarians through the oracle, the tractors are now able to do the Hiigarians.
