Inotropic effect (inotropic effect, Greek: ίς, ίνός - force + τρόπος - direction of action, mode of action) is a change in the force of contraction of the heart . It can be positive and negative.
- Positive inotropic effect - an increase in the force of contraction of the heart
- Negative inotropic effect - reducing the force of heart contraction
