Biography

Eugene Tatarsky was born on September 10, 1938 in Leningrad. He studied at school number 107 of the Vyborg district . After school, he entered the Leningrad Hydrometeorological Institute , after studying for a year, dropped out of the institute and tried to enter the acting department of the Theater Institute , but did not score the required points. After serving three years in the army, he entered the directing department of the Theater Institute, passed exams, but did not pass an interview. Came to work at the Leningrad film studio of popular science films ; For a year he worked as a laborer, loaded boards and film strip, after which he became an assistant director. He worked in this capacity from 1961 to the beginning of 1964, traveled with film crews throughout the Soviet Union, from the Arctic Ocean to the border with Iran [2] .

Working at the Lennauchfilm , Yevgeny Tatarsky began to study in the correspondence department at the Institute of Culture at the faculty of cultural and educational work at the department "Director of Amateur Theaters" (workshop of L. G. Teplyakova), graduated in 1969 [3] . In 1964, he began working at the Lenfilm film studio, first he was an assistant director (in the films Crash , Worker Village , In the City of S. ), then the second director on the set of the films Salute, Mary! ”,“ Bad good man ”,“ Under a stone sky ”, on the Soviet-American film“ Blue Bird ”. Already working as a second director, he was enrolled in the third year of the television directing department of LGITMiK . As a thesis, he shot the short film “ Fire in the wing ” based on the story of Victor Dragunsky , who received the Grand Prix of the festival of television films in Munich [2] .

Since 1976 - Director . In 1977, he shot the psychological detective " Golden Mine " - one of the most popular films of the seventies [3] . In 1979, the serial film " The Adventures of Prince Florizel " was released. According to film critic Lidia Maslova , “the film has a well-deserved fame as one of the main Lenfilm television hits, which effortlessly combines classic lines of English cut and frivolous accessories, reverence for the genre of costume adaptation and an ironic play with it” [3] .

From 1998 to 2002, Eugene Markovich filmed television series. His last directorial work was the mini-series "Niro Wolfe and Archie Goodwin" , which he himself perceived as a failure [4] . In 2009-2010, he participated in the filming of some episodes of the television series " Word to the Woman ." [five]

Since 1991 , he was deputy chairman of the St. Petersburg branch of the IC ; since 2001, he was the chairman of the St. Petersburg IC [3] .

Evgeny Markovich died on February 23, 2015 in St. Petersburg [6] . According to his friends, “... recently, Evgeny Tatarsky was injured. Today afternoon at home Tatarsky sharply became worse. It was not possible to save him ” [7] . He was buried in the cemetery in Repino , next to his wife’s grave. [8]
