Operating principle

Megaphone (from other Greek: μέγας, μεγάλη - great, outstanding, and η φωνή - voice) - a portable device for sound amplification using a horn , equipped with a handle for ease of use. Electric megaphones are common, including a directional microphone , an electric amplifier, and a horn speaker .

Electric megaphone

The word megaphone was coined by Thomas Edison in 1878. Edison's megaphone consisted of two horns connected by a long hollow sound-transmitting tube. In the same year, Werner von Siemens connected the loudspeaker he had invented earlier with a speaker .

The megaphone is used at concerts , public performances of speakers , to manage public events and in other cases.

An electric megaphone can imitate siren sounds to attract attention, as well as have a remote microphone. The electric megaphone can work both from the battery , and from replaceable batteries .

In jargon, a megaphone is often called a “matyugalnik” [1] .
