Biography
Born in the village of Maryanskaya in 1928 in a family of Kuban Cossacks, his father is a teacher. In 1930, his family moved to Sestroretsk. During the war, along with his mother, was evacuated to the Altai Territory. In 1944, he returned to Leningrad with his family. In 1948 he graduated from evening school and entered the history department of Leningrad State University with a degree in art history, graduated in 1953. In 1953-1956 he studied at the graduate school of the department of art history, the theme of his scientific work was “Russian Art Picture 1870 years. "
From 1956 to the end of his life, he worked at the State Russian Museum , from 1963 in the department of graphics, and since 1971, he was a senior researcher. In 1977 he defended his thesis.
In 1964, he met the artist V.V. Sterligov , and under his influence began to become interested in the art of the Russian avant-garde. It adjoins the “Staropeterhof school”, created by V. V. Sterligov and S. N. Spitsin, which received this name because meetings and exhibitions of artists were held in Old Peterhof , in the house of the artist S. N. Spitsyn.) The circle of the Star Peterhof school included V. Sterligov, T. N. Glebova , P. M. Kondratyev (until 1965), S. N. Spitsyn, V. P. Volkov (until 1965), art critic A. V. Povelykhina .
