History
The port is located on the right high bank of the Dnieper , 25 km from the Dnieper estuary and 95 km from the sea. The port was founded in 1778 , but for large freight was not used for a long time due to the insufficient depth of the Dnieper . Only in the late 1890s. After deepening the shipping channel through the Kherson Sea Port, large quantities of wool and grain were exported, and by 1900 the port was in fourth place for export in the Russian Empire with an annual cargo turnover of almost 900 thousand tons.
During the years of Soviet power, the port underwent technical reconstruction: the depth and width of the shipping channel were increased, mechanized moorings, warehouses, and industrial buildings were built. During the Great Patriotic War of 1941 - 1945, the economy of the port was destroyed, in the post-war period it was restored. By the end of the 1970s port cargo turnover approached 4 million tons., mechanization of loading and unloading operations exceeded 90%. The annual passenger flow, in turn, reached 100 thousand people.
Technical capabilities KHMP - handling over 4 million tons of cargo per year.
