Luis de Granada ( Spanish Luis de Granada , proper name Spanish Luis de Sarria , 1504 , Granada - December 31, 1588 , Lisbon ) - Spanish theologian, Dominican monk, one of the great mystics of Spain, along with Saint Teresa and San Juan de la cruz .

Biography
The son of a poor Galician , early lost his father, his mother was forced to beg. The nobleman, Count de Mendoza regretted the boy and took him in pages to one of his sons, Diego Hurtado de Mendoza (who later became known as a poet, writer, diplomat and historian). Louis grew up in the Alhambra , where the Mendoza family lived.
At the age of nineteen he entered the Dominican monastery in Granada, in 1525 he became a monk and took the name of Luis de Granada. In 1529 , already possessing deep theological knowledge, he was sent to study in Valladolid , where he became close to the eminent theologian Melchor Kano , who developed the humanistic ideas of Erasmus of Rotterdam . Later he served in Cordoba , where he was close to Juan of Avila . From 1551 he lived in Portugal - in Evora and Lisbon, where he was called up for the outstanding gift of eloquence.
Proceedings
Both of the most famous treatises of Luis de Granada Libro de la oración y meditación (Book of Prayers and Meditations) ( 1554 ) and Guía de Pecadores (Guide for Sinners) ( 1556 ) were entered by the Inquisition in the Index of Banned Books ( 1559 ), but they were approved by the Council of Trent , they were reviewed and approved by Pope Pius IV and Cardinal Carlo Borromeo . The Inquisition later found the influence of Protestantism in the writings of Luis de Granada.
The collected works of fra Luis de Granada in nine volumes were published in 1578 in Antwerp .
Recognition
The works of Luis de Granada are still published not only as theological works, but also as outstanding monuments of the Spanish language (he also wrote in Latin and Portuguese). Their fragments are included in school reading books, representative anthologies of Spanish literature.
Beatified in 1997 .
