The defragmentation program included in Windows 2000 , 2003 , XP and Vista operating systems is based on the previous version of Diskeeper.

Features

A new feature introduced in Diskeeper 2007 is automatic defragmentation, that is, a built-in scheduler. Automatic defragmentation occurs on the fly. Diskeeper does not require the creation of a schedule, as it constantly works, using resources only when the PC is idle. Planning in most cases is not applied, and disk performance remains at a high level.

Diskeeper can defragment and move system files, including MFT data, which are not available to many other programs, which makes a reasonable contribution to the increase in performance. This function is performed until the operating system is fully loaded, when files are not yet in use and have access to them.

Another feature of Diskeeper is "Intelligent File Access Acceleration Technology" (I-FAAST). During its operation, I-FAAST determines the frequency with which files are used, then locates them based on a hard disk speed test. Because of this, Diskeeper speeds up file access and helps prevent fragmentation. The I-FAAST feature is available only in editions: Professional Premier, Server and Administrator.

There are six software versions: Home, Professional, Professional Premier, Server Standard, Server Enterprise and Administrator.

Proceedings

The inclusion of the Diskeeper utility in Windows 2000 was the subject of litigation in Germany [1] .

Before signing the order to install Windows 2000 on the servers of the German government, the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) demanded that Microsoft source code to verify that the software does not collect or send data. The issue was resolved when Microsoft published a utility that allowed users to remove Diskeeper at their request [2] .
