Biography

Born in the village of Guardsmen of the Borsky district of the Kuibyshev region in a peasant family. From 1936 he lived and studied at the Chashnikovo state farm near Moscow, where the family moved after the death of his father.

In December 1941, the retreating Nazi troops burned down the house of the Gubarevs. The family was forced to move first to the Moscow Khimki , and then return to their native village. After the end of the war, the Gubarevs moved to Kryukovo near Moscow.

In 1950 he graduated from high school and entered the Naval Aviation School of Technicians . Having learned that a servant is being trained at the school, in November 1950 he achieved, at the first opportunity, a transfer to the Naval Mine-Torpedo Aviation School . After graduation in 1952 he served in parts of the USSR Air Force . From December 1952 he was a pilot, from March 1953 he was a senior pilot of the 1540th mine-torpedo air regiment (from 1955 to the 928th air regiment) of the 598th mine-torpedo aviation division (from 1955 to the 130th aviation division), from January 1956 - commander link of the 5th mine-torpedo air regiment of the same air division of the Air Force Pacific Fleet . From February 1956 - commander of the 926th Guards mine-torpedo air regiment of the 13th mine-torpedo division of the Air Force. From September 1961 - Squadron Commander of the 855th Separate Mine-Torpedo Air Regiment of the Black Sea Fleet Air Force.
He flew Yak-18 , Tu-2 , Il-28m , L-29 airplanes, the raid was more than 1450 hours.

In 1957 he entered and in 1961 graduated from the Air Force Academy .

In January 1963 he was enlisted in the detachment of Soviet cosmonauts (Air Force Group number 2). Passed a full course of general space training. He was trained in the Soviet lunar program, as part of a group he mastered the military research version of the Soyuz spacecraft (ship 7K-VI). Later he prepared for space flights on Soyuz-type ships (under the Contact program) and the Salyut-type orbital stations as a commander, and was repeatedly an understudy.

In September 1973, he was the commander of the backup crew (together with Georgy Mikhailovich Grechko ) during the flight of the Soyuz-12 spacecraft. He made his first flight from January 11 to February 9, 1975, together with Grechko as commander of the Soyuz-17 spacecraft and the Salyut-4 orbital complex Soyuz-17 (callsign is Zenit). The duration of stay in space was 29 days 13 hours 19 minutes 45 seconds.

Since 1976, he was trained under the Intercosmos cooperation program with the socialist countries. The second flight was made from 2 to 10 March 1978, together with the Czech Vladimir Remek , as commander of the Soyuz-28 spacecraft (call sign - Zenit). It was the first manned flight under the Intercosmos program. The astronauts worked aboard the Salyut-6 orbiting complex Soyuz-27 -Soyuz-28 together with Yuri Viktorovich Romanenko and G. M. Grechko. The duration of stay in space was 7 days 22 hours 16 minutes. For 2 flights into space flew 37 days 11 hours 35 minutes 45 seconds. In 1981, he left the cosmonaut corps, but continued to serve in command positions at the Yury Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. In the 1980s he was deputy head of the 30th Central Research Institute of the Ministry of Defense .

Since 1988 , retired.

Member of the CPSU from 1957 to 1991 . Major General Aviation ( 1983 ).
Candidate of Technical Sciences (since 1982 ), has 16 scientific papers.

He died on February 21, 2015. Farewell and funeral took place on February 25 at the Federal Military Memorial Cemetery [1] [2] .
