Biography
Born on October 24 ( November 6 ), 1911 in Vladikavkaz (now North Ossetia , Russia ). By nationality - Armenian .
He arrived in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg ) in the summer of 1930. He began to work at the Baltic Plant , at the same time he was taken by an extra to the Bolshoi Drama Theater .
He studied at the State courses of music education. N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov (now the School of Music named after N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov ). He took singing lessons from M. M. Levitskaya. In 1932-1935 he studied at the Leningrad College of Music at the Conservatory (now the St. Petersburg College of Music named after N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov ) (class Z. S. Dolsky) [1] . In 1960 he graduated from the Yerevan Conservatory named after Komitas .
Since 1933 - soloist of the concert and theater bureau of the Lengosakteatrov. He worked at the First Youth Opera House, where he made his debut in 1933 as Fiorello in the Barber of Seville by J. Rossini .
In 1935 - 1937 he was a soloist of the Leningrad Maly Opera House (now the Mikhailovsky Theater ), in 1937 - 1940 - the Yerevan Opera and Ballet Theater .
During the war, from July to October 1941, he traveled with the brigade on instructions from GlavPURKKA to perform in the Red Army , hospitals, evacuation centers at stations. For his dedicated work at the front, he was thanked by the Political Administration of the Western Front , the command of the army, as well as personal weapons from General L. M. Dovator . He sang more than five hundred concerts on the fronts and in the rear and had military awards - medals “For Courage” , “For Defense of the Caucasus”.
From 1940 to 1966 he was a soloist of the Bolshoi Theater (Moscow), on the stage of which he gave 1,800 performances. In 1960, the first of the Soviet singers performed at the New York Metropolitan Opera in "Aida" [2] .
He performed as a concert singer, with particular success performing the romances of P. I. Tchaikovsky and S. V. Rachmaninov, songs of Soviet composers.
Has toured abroad (Iran, Finland, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Poland, Yugoslavia, the Netherlands, India, Japan, USA, Canada, Greece, Belgium, Indonesia, Italy, Iceland).
Engaged in teaching. In 1967 - 1973 he taught at the Yerevan Conservatory (since 1969 - head of the department, since 1970 - professor ), later - at the Moscow State Philharmonic . At the Bolshoi Theater he advised young singers. [3] . Together with Z. A. Dolukhanova, he headed the International School of Singing at the Union of Theater Workers of the USSR. He regularly taught vocal skills in Rostock (GDR).
Repeatedly participated in international competitions as a member of the jury, including the competition in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), the competitions of R. Schumann and JS Bach in East Germany. For 20 years he participated in Weimar music workshops [1] .
He died on July 6, 2004 (according to other sources - July 5 [4] ). He was buried at the Armenian cemetery in Moscow [5] .

Three children of P. Lisitsian professionally engaged in singing, became laureates of international competitions, have the titles of people's artists of Armenia, honored artists of Russia. The eldest son Gerasim became a famous actor.

- In 2005, Karina, Ruzanna, and Ruben Lisitsian created the P. Lisitsian Charity Fund [11] , which organizes numerous concerts, workshops, and creative seminars [12] .
- In 2008, the First International Baritone Competition named after P. Lisitsian was held in Moscow [13] .
