King George Islands ( French Îles du Roi Georges , English King George Islands ) - a group of islands in the northern part of the Tuamotu archipelago ( French Polynesia ). Administratively, the group is part of the commune of Takaroa .

History
The group was opened in 1616 by Lemer Jacob and Willem Schauten , but they could not land on the islands. The group received its modern name in 1765 , when the Englishman John Byron named the island in honor of the English king George III .
