He studied at the Juilliard School with Mack Harrell , then at the University of Pittsburgh . In the early 1950s He performed a lot in NBC opera productions, sang at the New York City Opera, the Cleveland , Pittsburgh , Santa Fe , and Broadway opera houses. In 1953 he became a laureate of the Naumburg Competition for Young Performers [1] .
