Creation History

The construction of the church belongs to the beginning of the Palaeologi era ( XIII century ). In 1548, the Turks turned it into a mosque and in the last years of Turkish rule, the gallery surrounding the church (only the eastern part of the arch remained), which has not been restored to the present, was destroyed during the renovation works.

Architectural features and interior decoration

The church building is cruciform, single-nave . The church was originally surrounded by a gallery, which had two small aisles symmetrically to the altar in the eastern part. Entrance to the church from the gallery was possible only through the doors in the north and south sides of the temple (the church has no traditional western doors). The central dome is fixed on four arches forming a cross . There is a small dome located above the nave .

In the church remained a small number of frescoes . In relatively good condition in the nave there is an image of the Virgin , and in the deacon's room - the image of the three saints . [one]
