Biography
From childhood he studied music, played the violin and cello, sang well. In 1825 he arrived in Paris , where he studied law, and at the same time studied musical composition with Antonin Reich and opera vocals. During this period, Kusmaker composed elegant salon music - romances and quadrille, resembling either Bellini , Rossini , or Megul .
In 1830 , Kusmacker completed his legal education and returned to the north of France to continue his career: he was a lawyer in Douai , then a judge in Azbrooke and Lille. At the same time he performed with concerts as a singer.
In 1835 , Kusmaker began to study the history of music, mainly medieval. He owns such works as The History of Harmony in the Middle Ages ( Fr. Histoire de I'harmonie au moyen-âge ; 1852 ), Polyphonists of the 12th-13th Centuries ( French Les harmonistes des XIIe et XIIIe siècles ; 1864 ) and Dr. Kusmaker prepared the publication of the complete works of Adam de la Al ( 1872 ) and published an anthology of medieval treatises "A New Series of Writers on Medieval Music" ( Latin Scriptorum de musica Medii aevi nova series , 1864 - 1876 ; acronym accepted in science - CS ) , in continuation of a similar (earlier) anthology of Martin Herbert .
In 1853 , Kusmacker became the founder of the Flemish Committee of France - a public organization aimed at supporting the Flemish language , literature and culture in northern France. This organization exists to date.
