1981 World Chess Championship Match

Karpov - Korchnoi (1981)

The World Chess Championship match between World Champion Anatoly Karpov (USSR) and Victor Korchnoi (Switzerland), winner of the competition, was held from October 1 to November 18, 1981 in Merano (Italy).

The rules of the match were the same as in 1978 - a game with up to 6 wins, in case of defeat, the champion has the right to a rematch.

Chief Arbiter - P. Klein (Ecuador).

A. Karpov retained the title of champion, winning with a score of 6: 2 (with 10 draws).
