Biography

Born in Vladivostok; his father is Pavel Petrovich (1910-1977), a designer of submarines. In 1951, after the appointment of his father as head of the Central Design Bureau-18 , the family moved to Leningrad .

1950s

In 1954 he entered the 1st Leningrad Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages .

Participated in an underground group consisting mainly of students from the institute; in November 1956, they distributed leaflets protesting the suppression of Soviet uprisings in Hungary .

In 1957, the KGB was arrested along with other members of the group. Convicted under Article 58 para. 10, 11 of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR to 10 years in prison [2] ; was in the camps for political prisoners until 1962.

1960-1980s

He graduated from the evening department of the Pedagogical Institute. Herzen ( English , 1966).

After his release, he worked as a bibliographer, translator of technical literature, a literary editor, author of synchronous texts in films, and a dubbing director.

In the 1960-1980s - a member of the dissident movement.

In 1984, he was dismissed from the Lenfilm film studio, and other studios were informed that the KGB was opposing his work in the cinema (as Pustyntsev recalled, this happened after the former KGB operative who was "developing" became the head of the personnel department of "Lenfilm" their group). In 1984-1989 he worked at the Tallinnfilm and Esttefilm studios , in 1989 he was able to return to the Lenfilm.

1990-2000s

Political Activities

Run for:

  • 1993 - to the State Duma of Russia - in the district from the block "Choice of Russia" .
  • 1994 - to the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg - from the Democratic Unity bloc; lost in the second round.

In 1993-1995 he worked as an assistant to a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Molostvov .

In 1994-1997, he was deputy chairman of the St. Petersburg organization of the Democratic Choice of Russia party .

Human rights activities

In 1991-1996, he was co-chairman of the St. Petersburg branch of the human rights society Memorial .

Co-founder (1992) and chairman (since 1992) of the civil rights organization " Civil Control ", created "in order to ensure control by the parliament and citizens of the country over the activities of state law enforcement agencies." The author of numerous publications on human rights issues.

Member of the Council under the President of the Russian Federation for the Promotion of the Development of Civil Society Institutions and Human Rights (from 2004 to June 2012); left the Council in disagreement with the established procedure for online elections of its members. [3]
