Biography

Igor Levshin was born in Moscow in 1958. He graduated from the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys . As a writer, he made his debut in the late 1980s. in samizdat ( Epsilon-Salon almanac). Along with prose, he also published poetry (including Vepr Petrov, on behalf of the literary mask - the ironic aestheticization of banditry that was relevant in the early 1990s: graceful verlibres written by the killer about his craft) and short plays. He was regularly published in the draft journal, published by Alexander Ocheretyansky in New York . In many respects, Levshin’s work draws close to the conceptualist prose of Vladimir Sorokin , at the same time caricature and travesty of Sorokin radicalism.

From 1994 to 1995 he worked as an editor in the journal Ptyuch .

In 2009, participates in the new literary cycle-campaign "The Phenomenology of the Name" (together with Igor Sid and Ekaterina Dyce ).

At the end of 2009, Igor Levshin recorded the CD “Oil” with the Moscow group Karamadzhongi (vocals I. Levshin and Heinrich Korolev, texts I. Levshin, music “Karamadzhongi” and I. Levshin)

Since 2004 she also writes fantastic stories and fairy tales.

The first prose book, "Igor Levshin's Fat," was published in 1995 in the series "Classics of the XXI Century" in the "Publishing House of Ruslan Elinin."

In 2015, the prose book “Petrusha and the Mosquito” was published in the series “Russian Lessons” (published by Oleg Zobern ), which was included in the short list of the Andrei Bely Prize .

In 2017, the poetry collection “Igor Levshin and its additions. Talking rags (nocturnes & nightmares) ”,“ New Literary Review ”.

In January 2015, together with Kirill Makushin and Alexei Borisov (“ Night Prospect ”, “ Center ”) he created the musical group “Fake Cats Project”.

In April 2016, the first CD of the Fake Cats Project group entitled “Russian Canon” (Lyrics and Vocal by Igor Levshin and Kirill Makushin. Music by the Fake Cats Project (Levshin, Borisov, Makushin) was released on the Moscow label “Frozen Light” ). Artem Amatuni (Mastering) and Konstantin Sukhan (Trumpet) Designed by Natalya Levshina took part in the recording.
