In February 1996, Marco Antonio Barrera met with Kennedy McKinney . It was the debut version of HBO BAD - Boxing After Dark. This version was highlighted specifically for low-level fights (Barrera was not well known at the time of the fight), novice boxers, as well as for non-title fights of famous boxers. The fight was very spectacular. At first, the battle went smoothly - the higher McKini kept the distance due to the movement, but after the middle of the fight, Barrera began to reduce the distance. A minute before the end of the 8th round, Barrera punched a three - a left hook to the head, a right hook to the body and again a left hook to the head. McKinney fell. He stood at the expense of 8. Barrera rushed to finish off. He conducted a series of blows to the head. The American shifted to the side and tried to step back, but he was caught by Barrera's left hook. McKinney fell on the ropes. He immediately rose. The referee wanted to count down the knockdown, but Barrera forced the events - he began to beat the opponent even more. The American barely got out of the corner and tried to step back again, but then a right hook fell into his jaw. This time, McKinney fell on the canvas, and immediately jumped up. In battle, the rule of 3 knockdowns was in effect - the next knockdown in the round meant an automatic stop of the fight. Barrera had 15 seconds to finish - he brought down a hail of blows, but McKinney survived. “McKinney survive” (MacKini survives) - shouted HBO commentator Jim Lampley immediately after the gong, announcing the end of the 8th round. A minute before the end of the 9th round, Barrera held McKinney in the corner and led a series of punches. Escaping, McKinney sank to the floor, and immediately stood up. The referee counted out the knockdown. At the end of the 10th round, McKinney successfully attacked the Mexican. Barrera in counter attack conducted a deuce and hit the jaw of an American. At that flew off the cap. Still, McKinney continued to bomb Barrera with confidence. After Barrera got close to the opponent, the referee interrupted the bout in order for the American's seconds to put in a kap. McKinney expressed dissatisfaction with this. Barrera got a few seconds of respite. In the 11th round, McKinney, slipping from left to right, hit a powerful right hook that fell right into the jaw of a Mexican. Barrera crouched, and with his left hand rested on the floor, but immediately stood up. The referee counted out the knockdown. The Mexican did not agree with the knockdown, considering that he had slipped. At the beginning of the 12th round, Barrera struck a few blows to the body. McKini made a movement backward and slipped, fell backwards. The referee, despite the protest of the American, counted out the knockdown. In the middle of the 12th round, Barrera held a left hook to the liver. McKinney knelt down in an instant. The referee suddenly did not count down the knockdown. McKini rose, and Barrera rushed into the chaotic attack. The Mexican made several exact hooks from his right hand. A minute before the end, when going back, McKinney missed another hook, after which he was led, and he fell. The referee decided that he had had enough, and stopped the fight.
