SH-60 is a naval modification of the UH-60 army helicopter for use on board warships, developed in accordance with the U.S. Navy's competitive program LAMPS Mk.3 ( Light Airborne Multipurpose System - light aircraft multi-purpose system). The first helicopter flight took place in 1979 and was adopted by the U.S. Navy in 1984 .

Modifications
- SH-60B Seahawk - the basic modification of the deck anti-submarine helicopter, which won the LAMPS in September 1977 .
- CS-70 Fathawk (“fat hawk”) - a variant of the SH-60B with an increased fuselage of increased capacity, was offered as the main deck helicopter (NSA) for the Canadian Navy with the prospect of ordering 30-50 helicopters, where it competed with the French Aérospatiale AS.332 Super Puma and the British AgustaWestland EH101 , losing in the end to the latter, did not move beyond the drawings and prototyping [4] .
- SH-60F Ocean Hawk - deck anti-submarine helicopter for carrying out operations to cover aircraft carriers within a radius of 50 km; Designed to replace Sikorsky S-61 Sea King helicopters .

Upgrade
In April 2012, Lockheed Martin received a contract worth $ 1.05 billion for the supply of modern on-board electronics for Sea Hawk family helicopters. Under the five-year contract, the MH-60R Romeo and MH-60S Sierra helicopters will receive more than 200 new cockpits with digital information screens, on-board computers, and various sensors [7] .
The MH-60R helicopters will receive 162 new sets of on-board electronics, another 62 sets are intended for combat helicopters of the MH-60S version. The modernization of the fleet of helicopters MH-60 Sea Hawk US Navy should be completed by June 2018 [8] .
The helicopter is equipped with a low-frequency GAS, the range is increased by 3-7 times, compared with the old ones, including the possibility of interception of communications. Production of 20 stations per year [9] [10]

Incidents
On December 21, 2011 at 11:10 AM the MH-60S Seahawk the United States Navy crashed during a training flight near west of , California . [20] [21] [22]
On April 15, 2012 at 11:05 a.m., the SH-60J Seahawk of Japan’s Naval Self-Defense Forces crashed in Bay in Aomori Prefecture . Six crew members survived, the pilot died. [23] [24] [25] [26] [27]
On December 16, 2013 at 15:30, the MH-60S Knighthawk, assigned to the the US Navy, crashed near the port of Miura in Kanagawa Prefecture . The helicopter capsized on its side when trying to make an emergency landing after losing control. Two out of four crew members were injured. [28] [29] [30] [31]
September 2, 2014 at 14:30 MH-60S Knighthawk, assigned to the US Navy, flipped over when landing 64 km from the station in the center of the Valley. Five people on board sustained minor injuries. [32] [33] [34] [35]
On December 21, 2014 at 19:22, the MH-60S Seahawk, assigned to the 26th US Navy anti-submarine helicopter squadron, crashed during a training flight at the in Kuwait . Three crew members received minor injuries. [36] [37] [38] [39]
On June 14, 2016 at 11:12, the MH-60S Seahawk, assigned to the US Navy , was wrecked on the James River. All 3 crew members were rescued. [40] [41] [42] [43]
On April 26, 2017 at 06:57 a MH-60R Seahawk, assigned to the 78th Attack Marine Helicopter Squadron US Navy , crashed immediately after taking off from the deck of the Dewey destroyer, 39 km to the east off the coast of guam . The alleged cause is the failure of the tail rotor. The crew did not receive serious injuries. [44] [45] [46] [47] [48]
On August 26, 2017 at 22:48 SH-60J Seahawk, Japan’s Naval Self-Defense Forces crashed 90 km west-southwest of Cape in Aomori Prefecture. One of the four crew members was saved, the rest went missing. [49] [50] [51] [52] [53] [54]
On October 19, 2018 at 09:00, the MH-60R Seahawk, assigned to the 5th US Navy aircraft carrier air wing, crashed shortly after takeoff on the deck of the Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier in the Philippine Sea [ 55] [56] [57] [58] . Received various injuries 12 people. All the wounded are in stable condition under the supervision of medical personnel, some will be evacuated to shore. [59] [60] [61] [62] [63]
