About the album
The recording was carried out on Bashkir television in Ufa , in the spring of 1982. Restored by sound engineer Vladimir Kuznetsov.
In Ufa, the 70s were popular songs The Beatles , Creedence Clearwater Revival , Christie , Jimi Hendrix , George Benson , Jeff Beck , King Crimson , Deep Purple . In Ufa, there was Lenin Street - Broadway, where young people gathered and exchanged disks and information. Literature was distributed, for which they gave 8 years, if it is found during the search. In each house management and school, there were 2-3 vocal and instrumental ensembles that played the Beatles at night with the wrong harmony, being the most welcome guests in any company. Classical music, marches, an official Soviet song, or French and Italian music were broadcast on radio and television; in 1981, Leonid Brezhnev's speech at the 26th CPSU Congress was a notable event. [one]
A decree of the USSR Ministry of Culture allowed vocal-instrumental ensembles to perform no more than one or two foreign songs from friendly countries - for example, Poland or Hungary . Rustem Asanbaev : “It used to be, we play dances, and the next artistic council listens to us. Hearing something that is clearly not related to our then pop stage, so alarmed. “Are you playing anti-Soviet music here?” I had to trick. “How is it anti-Soviet? This is the song of the famous Hungarian composer Jimi Hendrix! Also in our repertoire there is a work of the prominent Polish composer Rolling Stones . " And nothing, twisted ” [2] .
Thanks to the participation in the All-Union contest of young performers "Golden Tuning Fork-82", held by the newspaper " Komsomolskaya Pravda ", the group was able to record on local television. Gennady Rodin brought a clipping and informed the others, although no one expected this. The event was organized by the host of the club “33 1/3” Yuri Filinov. The participants received letters in which there was a condition: to record two or three songs that most clearly expressed their creative personality. On the local television equipment - two single-channel tape recorders STM - “Don’t shoot!”, “Black Sun” and “Alien” were recorded. "Silently" the group recorded the entire album. They were recorded in two stages - first drums, bass, guitars, keys, then - voices, solos and at the same time mixing [3] . Work on the album lasted 3-4 days, the sound engineer - Igor Vereshchak [3] . In April 1982, the first concert at the Ufa Petroleum Institute took place , ending with a big scandal. The song “Pig on a Rainbow” became banned [4] . Three months later, Shevchuk went to the final of the competition in Moscow alone, without a group.
With the composition “ Do not shoot! ”And a performance was held at the“ Golden Tuning Fork ”, for its performance the leader of“ DDT ”received the main prize of the festival [3] . But from the television version of the event, it was cut out; as a condition for signing the contract, DDT was required to perform songs by popular Soviet composers, which Shevchuk refused [5] . There are also rumors that the authorities were afraid of the similarity of Shevchuk’s voice with Vladimir Vysotsky and decided to play it safe [6] .
The anti-war song appeared in 1980 , after a conversation with a childhood friend, artillery junior lieutenant V. Tyabin, when the first coffins with those killed during the fighting in Afghanistan were brought to Ufa. In an interview with Kommersant, in 2010 , Shevchuk said that the first verse of the hit was written by him in collaboration with the artist Alexander Spiridonov, who asked not to indicate his name [7] .
Shevchuk: “They asked me in the KGB :“ And who is the pig on the rainbow? Brezhnev ? "-" How did you guess ?! "- I answered" [8] .
