Khazin, Mikhail Grigorievich

Mikhail Khazin was born in the Bessarabian village of Prazhila (now Floresti district of Moldova ) in 1932 . He studied at a Jewish primary school. During the Great Patriotic War - with his family in evacuation in the Ural town of Orsk , he studied at a secondary school in the neighboring village of Sotsgorodok. Father died as a result of an accident in the labor army there in 1943 .

After the end of World War II, the family settled in the town of Soroki (now the district center of the Soroksky district ), where the future writer graduated from the Pushkin Russian Secondary School in 1950 (see here ). In 1955, Khazin graduated from the philological faculty of Chisinau University and soon began to write poetry for children. He made his debut in literary articles in the Chisinau magazine “October” in 1955 .

Member of the Union of Writers of the USSR. He was a member of the editorial board of the magazine "Codri", chairman of the Pushkin Society of Moldova. Some essays were published in Yiddish ( Sovetish Geymland magazine) and Moldavian language (Nistru magazine). Since 1994, lives in Boston , editor of Antifascist Herald, published in the American Russian-language press, and also in Yiddish in the Forverts newspaper .

Mikhail Khazin is the author of several books of fiction, essay, and children's poetry, including “The Boy and the Great Hour” (1977), “The Eternal Mark” (1982), “This Limit is Filled with Your Rumor ...” (1987), “Jewish Happiness ”(2007), literary works about the work of A. S. Pushkin and numerous translations from modern Moldavian literature - prose, poetry and dramaturgy. Moldovan authors translated by him include Ion Druta , Vladimir Beschlage , Ion Konstantin Ciobanu , Liviu Damian , Roman Lungu, Aureliu Busuyok ( Mold. ), Boris Vlastaru , Dumitru Matkowski , as well as Nikita Stanescu (from Romanian ), Alexander Belousov , the pseudonym of the poet and linguist Dov-Ber Kerler ), Itzik Manger and Ichil Shreibman (from Yiddish ), English poets of the XIX-XX centuries. He wrote the words to the "Oratorio in memory of Andrei Sakharov " composer David Gershfeld .
