Sarlyk Mountain is one of the attractions of the Shebalinsky District of the Altai Republic . It is located at a distance of about 10 km east of the highest point of the Seminsky Pass , one of the highest points of the Chuisky Tract . Mount Sarlyk retains snow spots on the slopes even in hot July.
The mountains of the ridge lie across the path of the main transfers of air masses coming from the west and north-west. The weather is especially unstable when cyclones pass through, which determine the wind conditions. Strong winds with blowing snow are observed in winter. Their speed reaches more than 30-35 m / s. They cause deflation of the snow cover, accumulating it in negative relief forms. Many trees, to resist the rush of such winds, have adapted. The age-old cedar forests in the βbattleβ develop a crown on the leeward side, but high vegetation on the slopes of the mountain itself is not observed. Such mountains in Siberia are called loach, because they rise above the limit on which the forest can exist.
On the north-eastern slope of the Sarlyk mountain, the Tuyuk River begins and flows north along the Tuyuk valley . On the western slope of the town of Sarlyk the Sarlyk River begins. Both rivers - Tuyuk and Sarlyk, flow into the river Sema , which, in turn, is one of the tributaries of the r. Katun . All rivers flowing down from the slopes of Sarlyk receive snow, rain and groundwater. Annual precipitation is 600β700 mm.
On the east side of the town of Sarlyk is the Tuyuk valley , in which the picturesque Kurata and Tuyuk lakes are located .
