Biography

Paul Bragg himself claimed to have been born in 1881 in Fairfax County, Virginia . However, according to documents found by his compatriot Wade Frazier, Paul Bragg was born on February 6, 1895 in Batesville, Indiana, and grew up in Washington , DC.

His parents: Robert Elton and Carolina (Chapius) Bragg. He had two brothers: James Elton and John Harrison Bragg. His father worked for the US Government Printing Office.

After graduating from high school, Paul Bragg joined the National Guard , where he served for 3 years.

In 1915 , in New York, Bragg married Niva Parnin. The family then moved to Indianapolis , where Paul Bragg became an insurance agent at the reputable life insurance company Metropolitan Life Insurance Company . A few years later, Paul Bragg returned to the East Coast, where he worked in various departments of the Christian Youth Union and in different school districts as a teacher of physical education or athletics.

In 1921, Paul Bragg moved to California with his family, which already had two daughters: Niva Polina / Polly (b. 1917) and Lorraine Agnes Bragg (b. 1919). Here Paul again got a job at the local Christian Youth Union.

March 25, 1922 Paul had a son - Robert Elton.

In 1924, Paul Bragg was a physical education teacher at a high school in Redondo Beach (California).

Around 1926, Paul Bragg ceased to be a hired worker and became a health entrepreneur, first opening a company called the Los Angeles Health Center on 7th Street in Los Angeles , and then, in 1928, the Bragg Health Center "On South Hill Street in Los Angeles.

He probably wrote a weekly health column in the Los Angeles Times in 1926-1928 to advertise his business. The proposed health services were written to him in the form of articles with hidden advertising and copyright columns.

In 1929, Paul Bragg began touring with lectures on health (for example, in Auckland (California), as well as in San Antonio and Dallas (Texas). He rented a room, advertised thoroughly and then gave a series of lectures - usually five or six days in a row In the evening, his lectures were free, but he charged a fee for private consultations after the lecture (about $ 20 in 1935, according to the testimony against him in a Maryland court ) .In 1929, he also registered the copyright for his first book on health "Heal yourself."

Since bookstores or bookstores in stores were usually available only in more densely populated areas, another goal of his lecture tour was most likely to advertise and sell his books.

During the first decade of life in California, Paul and Niva Bragg divorced. According to the U.S. Census in 1930, Niva already lived with her new husband, Augustus Bush, and three children from Paul Bragg in Los Angeles. The Florida marriage catalog lists Paul Bragg's marriage to Betty Brownlee in 1930 , although the status of this marriage at her death (believed to be in the 1930s) is not known.

In the 1930 Census there is no information about Paul Bragg, although the address directories of Burbank (California) at that time indicate his residence in this city from 1935 to 1954 and that his Bragg Live Food business was also located in that time there.

Subsequently, he moved to Desert Hot Springs (California), and later, in the 1960s, at least for a while - to Hawaii .

Death

There is a legend that, while surfing , he drowned when he was 95 years old. The first translator of Bragg's books in the USSR, Steve Shankman, took part in the distribution of this legend. In particular, he wrote: “Paul Bragg died in December 1976 at 96. But he did not die of old age. The death of this man is a tragic accident: while riding a board on the coast of Florida he was covered by a giant wave. " In fact, Bragg died on December 7, 1976 from a heart attack in the emergency department of the South Shore hospital in Miami at the age of 81. [2] [3] .

Criticism

The views of Paul Bragg, of course, did not meet with general approval, especially from the majority of professional doctors. A striking indicator of this is that even today it seems very unlikely that any doctor would recommend a person who addressed him a commemoration or other means described by P. Bragg. So, it is probably appropriate to say that from the side of official medicine there is mainly silence on this topic.

Criticism from Yu. S. Nikolaev , which can be considered in many respects his like-minded people, seems to mainly affect only not very important problems, such as distilled water or boiled water during fasting, to take laxatives or not, to use enemas or not. However, the humorous attitude of Yu. S. Nikolaev to the story of P. Bragg about the release of mercury from his body as a result of initiation indicates his slavish limitations. It is not known whether Alma Nissen criticized him, since her main works are not yet accessible to the general public. However, it is quite clear that the medical honoring that she used to treat her patients was very different not only from P. Bragg's method, but also from unloading and dietary therapy (RDT) of Yu. S. Nikolaev.

P. Bragg is also criticized by his compatriot and supporter of alternative medicine, Wade Frasier. He not only points to the falsification of P. Bragg's birth date, but also to a number of other inconsistencies, for example, the fictitious story of his tuberculosis and treatment in Switzerland, the release of mercury from his body as a result of veneration, the absence of his sister, whom he allegedly cured with his by the method of thinness, etc., concluding that in the light of this information it is appropriate to question any advice of P. Bragg regarding health [4] .

  2. ↑ This was reported on Friday, December 10, 1976 in The Miami Herald at Page 10-B ("He was stricken at the Crest View Apartments and rushed by rescue squad to the hospital where he died a short time later."), And confirmed by Bragg's Certificate of Death issued by the State of Florida, State File No. 76-084611, Register No. 15075. However, some people who knew the family reported that a surfing accident months before had left him with a lingering infection due to water in the lungs, after collapsing from the effects of the infection he was treated for a suspected heart attack. The strong medications used to rescue him contrasted too severely with his lifestyle and in his weakened state he succumbed.
