Biography
Yuri Nikolaevich Bogdanovich comes from a noble family .
Since 1869 he served as a county surveyor in the Velikiy Lutsk district of the Pskov province .
In 1871, he entered the St. Petersburg Medical and Surgical Academy. In 1873 , without completing the course, he went “to the people” - he and Vera Figner began to conduct propaganda among the peasants of the Volsky district of the Saratov province .
Since 1876 he was a member of the group of "separatists", adjacent to the organization " Earth and Freedom ". December 6, 1876 participated in the Kazan demonstration in St. Petersburg .
In 1879, with the split of the organization "Earth and Freedom" into the parties "Black Redistribution" and " Narodnaya Volya " joined the "Narodnaya Volya". In 1880, he became a member of the Executive Committee of the People’s Will and an active participant in the organization of the assassination attempt on Alexander 1 on March 1, 1881 .
Under the name of Kobozev, he opened a cheese shop in St. Petersburg on Malaya Sadovaya Street , from which a digging was carried out to the middle of the street for laying mines. The day before the assassination attempt, on February 28, a search was made in the shop, but Bogdanovich managed to hide the preparation of the undermining. Podkop on Malaya Sadovaya was not used for the attempt. After March 1, Bogdanovich managed to escape. He took an active part in restoring the organization’s work, actively preparing for the “Red Cross of the People’s Will” to prepare the shoots and release the prisoners. ” In 1881 he went to Siberia to prepare the corridor Krasnoyarsk - Kazan for the transportation of fledged revolutionaries.
