CAC 40 (short for Fr. Cotation Assistée en Continu , Russian KEK-40 ) is the most important stock index in France . The index is calculated as the arithmetic average weighted by capitalization value of the share prices of 40 largest companies, the shares that are traded on the Euronext Paris Stock Exchange . The initial value of the index - 1000 points - was established on December 31, 1987 . Starting from December 1, 2003, when calculating capitalization only free listed shares are taken into account.
