In 1795, Bogdanovich went bankrupt. His collection of prints and paintings, as well as a significant collection of books that were seriously damaged by a fire in the early 1790s, were sold for debts. In April 1796, Bogdanovich was put on trial on false charges of insulting a private bailiff, and in May he was “a kind of restless and stubborn man who disobeys the authorities” and was expelled from Petersburg to Poltava to his father. In 1801, Bogdanovich reminded himself of himself with a petition and at the end of the year the emperor was allowed to leave Poltava without the right to enter the capital. Died in need and obscurity.
