Story
The whole city is getting ready for the annual reconstruction of the Battle of Tamarack Hill , one of the episodes of the Civil War . The boys rehearse the game in the Union Orchestra.
In the morning, Stan's uncle, Jimbo , tells the reenactors that more than 200 spectators are planning to come to the reconstruction of the battle, and so he hopes to set a new record. Jimbo also notifies those present that “Another schnapps of Jagerman” “with wonderful taste more and more” has become the new alcohol sponsor. In addition, the special guest will be Grandfather Marsh , "an unrivaled expert on history." Then Cartman joins the audience (who had previously left the guys from the orchestra due to the fact that he beat the drums too hard), in the image of General Lee . The boys are outraged that Cartman came in the clothes of a Confederate officer . Cartman, perceiving the reconstruction as a kind of competition, declares that the South will win the war. Kyle, knowing the history of the United States, tells him that the South lost the battle and the entire war, which only provokes a further argument with Cartman. Kyle offers Cartman a bet. Pocket accepts it and offers the following conditions: if the Confederation wins the war, Stan and Kyle will be his slaves for a month, and if the North wins the war, then Cartman will become their slave.
9 a.m. Reconstruction of the battle of Tamarak Hill. According to the reconstruction plan, the North wins this battle and captures the bell located on the hill, while the reenactors, who are on the side of the South, must succumb and allow to win. Cartman, still in the guise of General Lee, steals the bell, thereby disrupting the entire course of the reconstruction. Because of this, reenactors have to start all over again. In preparation for the start of a second reconstruction, Cartman, taking advantage of the intoxication of all the southerners, invites them to capture the hill and declare that the city belongs to the Confederation. Drunken Jimbo agrees with Eric, saying that he has been involved in reconstruction for 22 years and all these years he is constantly forced to succumb to the northerners and hear mocking jokes from them. Mr. Harrison and Stuart McCormick , having also been pretty drunk, agree with Jimbo. Together with them, everyone else agrees, being in a similar state . Drunk southerners, taking advantage of the confusion of the northerners, attack the latter, wounding them with machine guns and firing blanks, which, nevertheless, can cause some pain.
At the party in honor of the reconstruction, the boys are angry with Eric, because he cheated. Taking advantage of the fact that all the reenactors, both northerners and southerners, are drunk, Cartman, wanting to win a bet, offers to capture Topeka , since according to the reenactors the next battle was supposed to take place there. The next day, the city is attacked by drunken Confederates and the flag of the Confederation begins to develop over the city. The Confederates capture the city outside the city, simultaneously stocking up with schnapps reserves and accepting the townspeople into their ranks. Returning to South Park, Butters, the Confederate Army messenger, delivers a letter to Stan and Kyle from "General Cartman Lee." A letter depicting the Ken Burns effect and sepia in the style of the 19th century tells of the victories of Cartman’s army and how Cartman hates them “with every cell of his Confederate body.” Arriving in Chattanooga , Grandfather Marsh, Stan and Kyle watch with horror the Confederate capture of the city. The National Guard also arrives and fires a warning rocket in the air, which kills Kenny (who joined the Confederates on Cartman’s promise of “women and booty”). Meanwhile, Kenny's mother receives a letter from Cartman, in which he regrets that Kenny fell on the battlefield and writes about how much he hates Stan and Kyle, which, if he wins the bet, should become his slaves.
The boys are implementing a plan according to which the Confederate army should be deprived of their main fuel - "Schnapps Jagerman." Waking up in the morning with a terrible hangover and not finding a single bottle of schnapps, the reenactors decide to stop this "most powerful binge" (according to Jimbo) and return home to South Park. Cartman, not wanting to lose the argument, orders several schnapps trucks over the phone. Reconstructors, being "under the fly", decide to take Fort Sumter. Despite the fact that they easily take the fort, they face the National Guard. The latter was defeated thanks to help from recruits from all over South Carolina .
Finally, the Confederate Army reaches Washington . The army requires recognition of the Confederation as a separate country. Cartman sends a letter to President Clinton , threatening, if the confederation is not recognized as a separate state, to publish a video with him and Marisa Tomei (in fact, Cartman’s bluff). Desperate, Stan and Kyle almost recognize Cartman as the winner. But then, drawing attention to the fact that all the Confederate men are again drunk and still consider all this a reconstruction, Stan and Kyle decide to change into Jefferson Davis and Abraham Lincoln respectively. In this form, they interrupt the act of signing the confederation recognition as a winner: Stan, in the form of Davis, declares surrender, and Kyle, in the form of Lincoln, accepts it. In exchange for surrender, the Confederate army receives an annual supply of “More Schnapps”. The Confederates, to Eric's dismay, accept defeat and decide to go on an excursion to the Smithsonian Institution .
Stan and Kyle decide what to do with Cartman, who lost the bet, but their triumph is short-lived. Cartman escapes the fulfillment of betting conditions after he nevertheless acknowledges the victory of the North in the Civil War, and that slavery was abolished at the end of the war. President Clinton clarifies this, pointing out that the abolition of slavery was one of the significant results of the civil war that made slavery illegal and the bet was canceled. Frustrated by the annulment of the bet, Stan and Kyle mockingly say: “Thank you, damn it, great, damn Clinton” and “Yes, thank you, freak”, respectively. Stan, Kyle, Grandfather Marsh and Cartman go home.
Production
After the previous episode , Mary Kay Bergman , the actress who voiced all the female characters in the series, committed suicide. Stone and Parker, shocked by the surprise, were in no hurry to audition for the role of the new actress. Therefore, they voiced the episode themselves (Trey Parker voiced Lady "More schnapps" and a school teacher from Topiki, and Kenny's mother did not utter a word).
Kenny's death
When National Guard soldiers give a warning shot under Chattanooga, they accidentally kill Kenny. An approached nurse only sprinkles his body with a fire extinguisher, without rendering him any medical care. In this case, the following exchange of replicas occurs:
Stan : - Oh, God! They killed Kenny!
Grandfather Marsh : - Bastards!
Kyle : - Hey!
