“Wings” ( English Wings ) is an American dramatic silent film of 1927 directed by William Wellman about pilots participating in the First World War . The first film to receive an Academy Award in the nomination " Best Film ". [1] . One of the most famous films of the silent film era and the only non-sound film to be awarded the Oscar in the nomination " Best Film ". [2] [3] For many years the film was considered lost until in 1992 a copy of the painting was discovered in the French Cinematheque . [four]

Content
Story
A love story of two aviators who fought as part of an American squadron in France during the First World War and who were in love with the same girl. However, the “love triangle” threatens the fortress of friendship between two young men.

Reaction
Film critics of those years noted that the intrigue of the film is too "liquid" to attract the attention of viewers for more than two hours. At the same time, battle scenes - primarily air battles - are considered one of the best in Hollywood history. [five]
Restoration
For release on Blu-ray in 2012, the film was remastered . The tape was restored, the original black and white image was converted to sepia with the addition of color in the scenes of air battles. As the soundtrack, John Stefan Zameknik's original score was used , recorded specially for the release and supplemented by Ben Burtt's sound effects ( Star Wars , Indiana Jones ).
