Registrar Lock
Folder-registrar (folder-segregator; also called clerical registrar) - a clerical folder with an arch mechanism for storing documents .
Serves for archiving documents alphabetically, chronologically or by topic. Separate sheets of documents are pre-pierced with a hole punch . Sheets or files with documents are put on the steel bars of the folder lock. File folders are available in various standard sizes. The most common folders for A4 paper with a back width of 80 mm or more (W × D × H) 280 × 80 × 320 mm.
It is widely used by those who work with a large number of documents, which need constant access.
The main structural elements of the registrar folder:
- end ring, which makes it possible to remove the necessary folders from the storage shelf;
- oval rings, with the help of which the folder is tightly closed "lock". Exact positioning of the folder mechanism in relation to oval rings ensures its high-quality, non-skewed closing, if the oval rings are installed with a deviation from their standard position, the folder will not be closed;
- metal edging along the lower edge of the folder cover, increasing its strength and durability;
- a pocket for a replaceable label, which provides the ability to identify documents contained in a folder;
- folder mechanism.
As mechanisms of the folder can be used:
- arched ring mechanisms of lever type. Their design is the most complicated from the point of view of mechanics and, in addition to expandable rings with a curly cut at the opening joint, implies the presence of a linkage mechanism, by means of which the ring closes and opens. An important element of the lever type mechanism is the clamping plate, which, thanks to its design, acts as a paper-pressing element, that is, it allows you to fix sheets of paper archived in the registrar folder in relation to the folder cover;
- ring mechanisms of expandable type. Outwardly, they are really simpler because they do not have a lever mechanism in their design. The ring mechanisms can be with different ring diameters, with the number of rings from two to six or more, with different ring shapes: D-shaped, O-shaped, with different spacing between the rings, which allows you to store not only punched sheets in the logger folder paper, but also sheets attached to files.
History
- The registrar folder in its modern look was invented with a hole punch in 1886 by the inventor from Bonn, Friedrich Sönnecken .
- The invention was improved by the Stuttgart company Leitz Luis Leitz and the company ELBA Erich Kraut ( German: Erich Kraut ) from Wuppertal .
- In 2005, Berlin-based Herlitz produced over 80 million registrar folders.
