History

In the XIII century , a kind of “binder” appeared for fastening paper sheets: cuts were made in the upper left corner, and cloth tape was passed through them. The first step towards the massive bonding of sheets was the sewing pins supposedly invented in 1835.

A modern folder is usually made of cardboard or plastic and protects documents from contamination and mechanical damage. Documents are attached with metal brackets (like a document stapler ).

Folder size (folded) for A4 sheets (width × height) 225 × 305 millimeters.

The inventor of the folder, in the West, is considered the German Carl Gladitz (Carl Gladitz), although in China, similar inventions were used long before him. Carl Gladitz, an employee of the city government of Soden , in 1895, came up with a convenient method of collection and protection for the documents used. First, he made his invention in Soden, then the company moved to Baden and, later, to Berlin .

Other values

In Soviet times, a stapler was also called a binder (the word "stapler" was not used then).
