Story

Christmas is coming, and for the Broflovsky family - Hanukkah . Kyle is waiting for Mr. Hankey to appear from the toilet, but for some reason he does not come; that night he calls Stan , Cartman and Kenny with him, they go down the drain and try to find out what is the matter. It turns out that Mr. Hankey got married, he has an alcoholic wife and three children, one of whom is underdeveloped. In addition to family problems, the Christmas poop is embarrassed by the fact that everyone, he said, has forgotten about Christmas.

The guys are trying to remind the townspeople and parents about the holiday. They sing songs, urge to buy gifts, but Christmas really got everyone; nobody wants to buy gifts, and everyone wants to just have a quiet family dinner on a holiday. Having seen on television the Christmas edition of Peanuts , the guys are tempted to make their own cartoon to remind everyone of the spirit of the holiday. The mayor , who is in despair due to the decline in sales of holiday products, supports the project.

One of Mr. Hankey's children, Cornwallis, begins to feel sad. He asks his father why they are needed, because there is no poop in any Christmas story or fairy tale. In response, Mr. Hankey sings the song “A Circle of Poo” ( Russian shit cycle ), in which he explains to his son that shit lies at the heart of everything and essentially controls the whole world. The perked Cornwallis, along with the rest of the poop, helps set up the old cinema for a festive show.

Cartman gets tired of doing the cartoon, and he leaves the project; Kenny crushes the car. However, Stan and Kyle still continue to work on the cartoon - Stan copies Cartman’s voice, Kenny decided to kill in the cartoon too. The guys finish the negatives of the film and send them to South Korea.

On Christmas Eve, a festive show is scheduled in the city. Citizens gather at the cinema, but a few seconds after the start of the demonstration of the cartoon, the film is chewed. All diverge; Now South Park residents are even more sick of Christmas. Mr. Hankey is also upset, but Cornwallis reminds him of the lesson he has learned, and together they repair the projector. When all the families of the city are at home, the film screening begins again. It impresses everyone, the townspeople realize that in fact the spirit of Christmas is the spirit of commerce, and they run after gifts.

At the end of the episode, the boys open their presents. Kyle says gifts are given for Hanukkah for eight days; Stan and Cartman say they also want to become Jews, and begin to sing a song about Dreidel .

Kenny's death

While working on the film, Stan, Kyle and Kenny take to the road, and Kenny is suddenly hit by a car. However, Stan calmly remarks: "Nothing, in the cartoon his character will die too."

References to the "Spirit of Christmas"

The cartoon that the boys make is The Spirit of Christmas: Jesus vs. Santa , the second of two short films that started South Park. The boys ’idea of making a Christmas cartoon is a reference to Fox ’s offer to Parker and Stone of Brian Graden to make a Christmas video card [1] . The boys use the materials of the first short film - “The Spirit of Christmas: Jesus against Frosty ”, which was made in reality several years earlier than “Jesus against Santa”. The characters for the cartoon are made by Butters , and the director-animator of the real cartoon was Eric Stoff , who served as the prototype for Butters. The ending of the episode completely repeats the ending of “Jesus Against Santa”: rats eat Kenny’s corpse, and the boys want to become Jews because of eight days of Hanukkah gifts and leave the frame with the song “Dreidel Dreidel Dreidel”.

Parodies

  • The song Kyle sings to cheer on Stan and Kenny is from Twas the Night Before Christmas . At one point in the song, Kyle's face is replaced by the face of Joshua Thrandl, one of the main characters of the program. Other plot twists, such as Mr. Hankey and Cornwallis, repairing the projector, when everything seems to be lost, also repeat the plot of Twas the Night Before Christmas .
  • The song “Circle of Poo” mimics the song from “ The Lion King ” “Circle of Life”. Elements from the footage of Circle of Life were taken, such as the views of the savannah and the rock on which Mr. Hankey stands, holding Cornwallis in the same way that Rafiki holds Simba.

Facts

  • This is the first episode of the series where Stan takes off his hat and we see that he has black hair.
  • In this episode, for the first time, you can see Butters' house.
  • Butters' workshop has posters with Panda Sexual Harassment and the inscription Cow Day. This is a reference to the episodes of Panda Sexual Harassment and Cow Days .
  • When Eric, resentful of Stan and Kyle, refuses to voice himself, Stan stands in a pose, arms extended, as if holding his stomach, and portrays Cartman. In the same way, Trey Parker did in BASethball when he mocked a fat man.
  • In this episode, Kyle says Stan has blue eyes.
