The style of the group is punk rock, or “bilingual rock and roll”. However, the group uses many styles. Maybe this very diversity, together with the most powerful concert energy and the “nervous” texts, as the journalists define it, was the reason that the group won the love of the Belarusian audience.
As a concert lineup, the team has existed since 1991 and during this period has released more than a dozen albums and has shot many videos. Starting as a Russian-speaking group, since 2003 the group has performed songs in Belarusian.
Title
The name of the group was formed by analogy with " Sex Pistols ". Instead of a pistol, another phallic symbol was chosen, the dowel - "a good and incomprehensible word." “Neuro” was chosen by Alexander Kulinkovich: at that time he often visited the neurosurgical department. [1] [2]
Group History
Early years
Neuro Dubel was founded in 1989 by Alexander Kulinkovich (previously known under the pseudonym Jim Lazarev, and in the mid-90s having replaced him with Alexander Kull inkovich, with whom he worked until the end of his career) and Gennady Ageychik (at that time Shulin Kullinkovich) [3] . The group’s birthday is July 17th, when this duet, in a state of terrible hangover, wrote and recorded several slow and sad songs. Over the next few years, the duo worked mainly at home, collecting musical material and creating their own style and sound. In this state, using mainly home audio equipment, the group released several albums (including one acoustic), which was called "Low-quality products of the Gangren Production Studio."
In 1991, Gennady Ageychik left the group, and soon, a duet appeared on the site of the duet: leader and songwriter Alexander Kulinkovich, guitarist and, subsequently, backing vocalist Yuri Naumov, bassist Dmitry Chizh and drummer Andrei Stepanyuk. Backing vocalist Svetlana Sidorovich, who tragically died in 1993, also took part in the group.
1990s First concerts
The first appearance of Neuro Dubel on stage took place at the opening of the Astrolabe Show on October 4, 1991. The group was the first guest from Belarus at the Moscow punk cafe Otradnoe. In 1993, the bassist was expelled from the group (for drunkenness), Stas Poplavsky took his place. Then the group got a keyboard player - Max Ivashin. At the end of 1994, a new guitarist, Maxim Steam, joined the band. As a result of these changes in composition, the group reaches an almost professional level and begins to play a lot and actively.
“Neuro Dubel” took part in local festivals: “BE SPOK” and “Alien Water” in Mogilev , “In Defense of Musical Minorities”, “Rock Forum”, “KG - An Angry Holiday”, “Hard Day” in Minsk, in “Belarus Against Nuclear Weapons” and “Musicians Against Drugs” campaigns, and “ Rock Karanatsyya ” ceremonies in 1995–96, where the group was awarded the special prize of the Leningrad Rock Club and the DDT group.
1995 year. Smart Things
In 1995, together with the new solo guitarist Maxim Parov, the first studio album (double) “The Smart Things (The Best)” was recorded. In the same year, at the invitation of Jadwiga Poplavskaya and Alexander Tikhanovich, the group took part in the first serious concert for themselves - "Pop TV" in the Sports Palace. Kullinkovich himself spoke about this concert:
| This was our first performance at the Sports Palace, then it was a dream limit not only for us, but for any Belarusian musician. Huge scene, equipment, plus the first normal television show. I’m counting the growth “dyubelovsky” from this concert, many then saw that, at least, we were watching on television. ... After this concert, there were proposals for performances from people who more or less meant something in the Belarusian show business. |
1996 year. "Brutal suicide by universal cutting Berner"
In 1996, the album “Brutal Suicide by Universal Cutting Berner” was released, and during the first two months of 1997 this program was sold in the amount of more than 5,000 copies with virtually no promotional or advertising campaigns. In 1996–97, the PAN Records company implemented the PesnyaRok cover project, where leading Belarusian groups performed versions of the songs of the famous Pesnyary ensemble. At the presentation of the disc on July 4, 1997, “Neuro Dubel” with his treatment of the song “Vologda” performed at the very end, even after the “Songs” themselves, thus leading and closing the show. At "Rock Karanatsi 1996" the group received a special prize "For the best interpretation of pop hits" ("Hello, someone else's dear").
1997 year. Working with United Records
In 1997, exclusively through the Internet, Neuro Dubel took part in the compilation of the United Records Canadian company - United We Stand. The song “Wai-Wai” turned out to be on the disc also an honorable last track in the company of 19 independent compositions from the USA, Canada, Great Britain and Finland. In 1998, from May 1 to 3, the rock festival “Baltic Coast '98” was held in the city of Sosnovy Bor near St. Petersburg. "Neuro Dubel" got: "Audience Award" with a margin of 40% from the nearest nominee and the "Grand Prix of the Leningrad Rock Club".
1999 year. Rock-Kranatsyya '98 Festival
In 1999, at the awarding ceremony of the best rock bands of Belarus “ Rock-Karanatsyya '98 ”, “Neuro Dubel” received the main prize - “Rock Crown” (the award was presented by Vladimir Mulyavin [4] ), in addition, the group won the nominations: “Best Song of the Year ”( “ Hunter and Saiga ” ),“ Best Album of the Year ”(“ Hunter and Saiga ”),“ Best Clip of the Year ”(“ Hunter and Saiga ”). At the annual awards ceremony of the best music videos “Crystal Monogram '99”, the video clip for the song “Planes” from the album “Villi and Spools” won in three categories: “Best Screenplay”, “Best Director”, “Best Actor”. On “Rock-Karanatsі '99” the album “Villi and Spools” was named the best album of 1999.
year 2000. Success in Russia
By the end of 2000, it was decided to put the group on the Russian market. The video "Vasya drinks" was recorded, rotated on MTV ; concerts were held in Moscow, and most importantly, the album "National Treasure" was released in Russia, for which the best songs in the history of the group were rewritten. In November, his presentation took place, and about two thousand tapes appeared on sale. But nothing came out of Moscow, and therefore the tapes were not overprinted, and the CD never came out. After a rather long pause in early 2002, the album “P. AND ABOUT. T.K. W.K. UK "(" True stories about how Carlson was stolen from a jumpsuit "). The disc was released in May and became one of the best-selling ones by the end of the year (according to some reports, the best). On December 14 of the same year, West Records released the PR during the Plague, a collection of the band’s best songs. It includes not only material from the popular treasure, but also songs from the latest recording of P. AND ABOUT. T.K. W.K. W.K. ”
2003 year. The threat of schism
In 2003, a turning point came for the group: the bass player was expelled from the group (and again for drunkenness), Maxim Ivashin left to study first and then work in Canada, creating the Klendike music band, and the lead guitarist of the band Max Parovoy was forced to leave for Moscow . Thus, the group was on the verge of collapse. However, the efforts of the group leader and his friends formed a new composition that has remained unchanged to date.
2004-2010 years. New Albums
And already in 2004 the first Belarusian-language album of the group - “ Tanki ” was released, which became the album of the year on “Rock-Karanatsi 2004-05”. On July 21, 2004, the group performed at an opposition concert, and from 2004 to 2007, together with other Belarusian rockers, it was unofficially banned. In addition to the main award - “Rock Crowns” - at “Rock Karanatsi 2007”, the group won the “Album of the Year” nomination - “ Stasi ”, which was included in the top 10 best-selling Belarusian albums of 2008 according to the results of sales in the Mystery chain of stores sound. " [five]
In November 2007, at a concert in the Graffiti club, the first concert DVD in the history of the collective was recorded. In 2009, on the website “Tuzin gitў”, the song “Tearing” from the album “Stasi” at the end of the year took 6th place and was included in the collection of best songs “Prem'er Tuzin 2009”. At “Rock-Karanatsі 2009” the group received a special prize “For devotion to rock music”. According to the results of the year, the song “Kasmangyty” from the album “ Aftars of Truth ” took 6th place in the charts “Tuzin gitі”. According to the version of the Internet portal “Tuzin gitў”, the album “Aftars of Truth” became the best album of 2010.
In 2007, Kullinkovich, along with several other Belarusian musicians, was invited to meet with Oleg Proleskovsky, deputy head of the Presidential Administration. We were clearly told: “Guys, do not play anymore, please, at opposition rallies. We said we won’t. And everything, and absolutely sincerely, ”said Kullinkovich. The leader of the "Dowels" said that he did this, despite the fact that he does not like the existing government. About which he sincerely informed the deputy head of the presidential administration. At the same time, Alexander Kullinkovich informed the Charter'97 press center that he would not play at the events of the authorities. “Our flag is white-red-white, not red-green. They didn’t put us on our knees. But we met with Alexander Milinkevich in the summer, and he absolutely did not help us ... Proleskovsky is a normal, adequate person, ”said Kullinkovich. [6]
In September 2010, at a gala concert of the Belarusian performer ’s selection for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, the group performed on the same stage with Ksenia Sitnik with their version of the song “Together” , with which Ksenia won in 2005. [7] [8]
According to the results of voting for the “Best Group of the 15th Anniversary” of “Rock Coronation” on the website of “Tuzin gitok”, “Neuro Dubel” took the second place, beating “Lyapis Trubetskoy”. [9]
2011—2018
On March 2, 2011, a list of artists and art groups allegedly banned from being mentioned in the Belarusian media appeared on the Internet, including “Neuro Dubel”. [10] Despite the refutation of the Minister of Information Oleg Proleskovsky, who called the list “vile fake” [11] , almost immediately the group began to have problems with the organization of performances. [12] [13] [14]
In November 2012, the Neuro Dubel group posted for free download its new album, “Recovering Advisers” [15] .
On January 15, 2013, at the press conference of Alexander Lukashenko, the question of the leader of the Neuro Dubel, Alexander Kullinkovich, was raised: “Why do these“ black lists ”of cultural figures exist?” [16] The President replied that he did not know anything about the “black lists” and ordered Andrei Kobyakov and Alexander Radkov to report on them. [17] Kullinkovich was skeptical of such a statement [18] , but on May 6, 2013, the “Radio Day” concert festival was held at the Re: Public club, where the group openly performed under its name for the first time in a year and a half. The concert was organized by Euroradio in order to find out whether a number of groups were really deleted from the unspoken “black list”, and actually meant the removal of unspoken prohibitions from the group [19] .
In February 2013, a tribute to the Signature Place group was released, which has been prepared for more than five years. Prior to this, only three Belarusian groups had their official tributes. [20] The tribute was attended by " : B: N: ", " BLAGI MAT !!! ”,“ The UNB ”, Dmitry Voityushkevich ,“ Detectives ”,“ The Cure for Melancholy ”, Mikhey Nosorogov ,“ Palace ”,“ Tarpach ”,“ Hasta La Fillsta ” [21] .
Since April 2013, Kullinkovich has been a columnist for the presidential newspaper Sovetskaya Belorussia [22] .
On April 20, 2015, the group released its anniversary, tenth numbered studio album “ On Mars!” " [23] .
In 2016, in parallel with the electric composition, Alexander Kullinkovich began to give concerts with the “Group of Cyclists”, performing acoustic versions of old songs of “Dowels” from the period of the 90s.
On April 8, 2017, the group took part in the filming of the Belsat Music Live program of the BelSat channel [24] . November 8, 2017 released the last album of the group " Pershy " [25] .
On the morning of August 4, 2018, it became known that the group leader Alexander Kullinkovich died at the age of 46. The cause of death was untreated pneumonia [26] .
The Belsat Music Live program, aired on October 21, was dedicated to the memory of Alexander Kullinkovich. The musicians of the Neuro Dubel group, along with friends and colleagues of Kullinkovich, performed some of the songs of the group. The program participants were: Igor Varashkevich ( Krama ), Leslie Nayf ( Gods Tower ), Alexander Pomidorov, Ales Lyutich ( : B: N:) , Lyavon Volsky and Zoya Sakhonchik (Zmyaya) [27] . A few days later, on October 25, in the Minsk Prime Hall amphitheater, a large concert was held in memory of Alexander Kullinkovich, entitled “I brought you cheers!”. In addition to the above-mentioned participants in the TV program, the concert was also attended by: Oleg Khomenko (“The Palace ”), Ales Myshkevich (The Superbullz), Yuri Stylsky (“ Give me your gift ! ”), Ales Tabolic (Znich), Denis Tarasenko (“Break the boy’s heart”) , Angus (Tornado), the project "Bicyclist", Zmitser Voytyushkevich and Vladimir Pugach ( J: Morse ). The proceeds from the sale of tickets will have to go to the monument to Kullinkovich, the publication of a collection of his journalism, as well as an album with photographs of the group Neuro Dubel [28] [29] .
