His self-titled debut album “ Burial ” , released on Hyperdub in 2006 , received extremely high marks from music critics, made it onto the Album of the Year lists of many popular publications (including first place in The Wire magazine), and thereby significantly influenced the popularization of relatively young dubstep music genre in which he works.
The next album, Untrue , released on the same label in 2007 , also received rave reviews from critics.
Personal life
Until August 2008, Burial remained incognito . According to the interview, his anonymity refers to the aesthetics of independent labels in the early to mid -1990s , when often no one knew the real name of the musician. It was also known that Burial writes all his music on a personal computer without the use of sequencers , but in only one Sound Forge audio editor , in addition, he independently prepares the covers for his releases. In July 2008, regular nominees for the annual prestigious British Mercury Prize [2] were announced, one of which turned out to be Burial with its latest album [2] . This caused a wave of excitement around the Burial person - the tabloid press suggested that Norman Cook (better known as Fatboy Slim ) or the more experimental musician Richard David James ( Aphex Twin ) could hide behind this name, The Sun newspaper even appealed to its readers to help reveal the personality of the musician.
On the evening of August 5, 2008, a photo of the musician appeared on the official Burial page of MySpace , as well as information that his real name is William Bevan, and he is the most ordinary resident of south London , as he stated earlier in his interviews. In addition, Beavan announced that he was finishing work on his third album, and in the near future, most likely will see the light of the next vinyl record with four new tracks. On September 9, 2008, the winners of the current Mercury Prize - Elbow were announced, William Bevan did not appear at the ceremony.
