William Welles Hoyt ( born William Welles Hoyt ; May 7, 1875 ; Glastonbury - December 1, 1954 , Cambridge ) - American athlete , champion of the 1896 Summer Olympics .

At first, on April 7 , Hoyt participated in the 110m hurdles qualification race. Taking second place, he could participate in the final race, which took place on April 10 , but he did not take part in it. Instead, that day he competed in a pole vault . He won this match with a result of 3.30 m.
