Ship History
Pravda was laid down on May 21, 1931 at plant No. 189 (Baltic Plant) in Leningrad under building number 218, was launched on January 30, 1934 , and on June 9, 1936, the boat became part of the KBF [1] . The Pravda submarine is named after the eponymous newspaper, which was the daily central press organ of the Bolshevik Party of the CPSU (B.). Due to design flaws, the combat use of the boat was ruled out, so Pravda was used as a training ship in training submariners.
In the period from December 1937 to November 6, 1939 the boat underwent a major overhaul.
In November 1940, she participated in a group expedition with P-2 and P-3 in the Baltic Sea with calls to Tallinn, Riga, Libau [1] .
At the beginning of the war, the boat was part of the Separate Training Submarine Division in Oranienbaum . The commander of the boat was Captain Lieutenant I. A. Loginov .
In September 1941, it was decided to use the "Truth" to supply troops in Hanko . On September 9, the boat left Kronstadt with a load of food, medicine, ammunition. The boat moved in the surface position, accompanied by a minesweeper BTSC-211 and a patrol boat. On the island of Gogland , Pravda continued its campaign autonomously, but subsequently did not get in touch and did not arrive at its destination. It is believed that she died between September 9 and 11 at the Yuminda or Corbeta minefields [1] .
In 2011, the boat was discovered at the bottom of the Baltic during a survey of the bottom for the purpose of laying the gas pipeline and was examined by Russian divers (Alexei Vazhinsky) in May 2012. The cause of death was established - a mine explosion. A memorial plaque was installed on the boat and wreaths were laid; it was recognized as a mass grave [2] .
