Biography
Born in 1752 in the family of the artist Alexander Cozens . Early began to draw, possibly under the guidance of his father [1] . He began to exhibit some early drawings with the Society of Artists of Great Britain in 1767. In 1776, he showed a large oil painting at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
In the years 1776-1779 traveled to Switzerland and Italy. In 1779 he returned to London. In 1782-1783 he again toured Italy, this time in the company of William Beckford , who was a pupil of his father.
In 1793 he became a victim of a mental disorder and lived under the supervision of physicians until the end of his life. The artist died in 1797 in London.
Creativity
He painted mainly watercolor landscapes. The painting of J. R. Cozens influenced Thomas Görtin and William Turner .
