Filtering e-mail (e-mail) - processing of e-mail letters to organize them in accordance with certain criteria. As a rule, this means automatic processing of incoming messages, but also applies to manual processing (in addition to the artificial intelligence of automatic filters), as well as to the processing of outgoing mail.
Filtering software accepts an e-mail message for processing. Then the message can be delivered unchanged to the user's mailbox, redirected for delivery somewhere, or even destroyed. Some mail filters can also edit the message during processing.
The main purpose of mail filters is to remove spam and viruses . A less common use case is to check outgoing messages at some companies to verify that employees comply with relevant laws and regulations. Mail filters can also be used to highlight priority assignment to messages and sort them into folders.
