Sir Kamuta Latasi (born 1936 ), speaker of the Tuvalu parliament in 2006–2010 and 2010–2014, and Prime Minister of Tuvalu in 1993–1996 . His wife was also a member of parliament until her death in 2012 . Landowner, on the political scene for many years. It occupies a republican position, although in principle in Tuvalu there is no clear party line for politicians. During the premiership, Latasi raised the issue of changing the national flag of Tuvalu and reducing the size of the Union Jack . Latasi, at her discretion, replaced the flag with a new one without a British roof, which served as a signal of distancing from the colonial period. However, this flag was short-lived, as the successor of Lataci Bikenibeu Paeniu restored the previous version of the flag.
