Nexikan is a former settlement (formerly an urban type settlement) in the Susumansky district of the Magadan region of Russia . The Yakut word “Nixikan” means “musty place”, while “nixik” is “rotten”, “musty”, and the suffix “-kaan” is diminutive, resulting in “a small musty place” [1] . In Even, “ Nexican ” - “ Labaz on a tree” [2] .

Geography
It was located on the right bank of the Berelekh River ( Kolyma basin ), on the Magadan - Ust-Nera highway, 25 km west of the city of Susuman .
History
The names of the Upper Nyksekyan and Nizhny Nyksekyan rivers first appeared in 1929 on the route map of the surveyor K. A. Salishchev , who along the way took rock samples in the Nexikan and Berelyokh river basins and as a result suggested the presence of gold in these places. In 1932, the exploration party of E. T. Shatalov arrived in the Susuman river basin and established a significant gold content there [1] , which in 1935 was confirmed by the party of K. A. Shakhvarstova. The final conclusion to the statement of capital reconnaissance was given in 1937 by the detailed-testing geological party of A. N. Baychurin
The beginning of the village was laid by the first houses of the Mexican-Miaundzhinsky intelligence district, erected in 1940 [3] . Then, in the valley of the Upper Nexican River, the mines “Svetly”, “Tokai” and others began their work. In the valley of Miaundzhi, a mine called Topky was organized, by the name of the stream at which it was located.
In November - December 1940, the Chai-Uriinsk mining department was organized on the basis of the village of Nexican. From 1951 to 1953, the ITL department of the Berelekhsky GRU was located in the village. Subsequently, the village was significantly landscaped and became the main base of geologists in the Susumansky district.
The village was closed in 1998 . Currently, gold is mined by the Tea-Urya Gold artel on the site of the former village. On October 11, 2012, a memorial plaque was opened in memory of the village.
