One of the founders of the movement of film education in Russia [1] . Member of the CPSU since 1957 [2] . Doctor of Art (1966), professor . Winner of the Union of Cinematographers (1981). Member of the Writers' Union of the USSR (1948). Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1969). President of the Association of Film Education (1989), the Association of Film Education and Media Pedagogy of Russia [3] . Member of the Writers' Union of Moscow . Commander of the Order of Friendship (1995) [4] and the Order of Honor (1999) [5] .

Biography
He graduated from the Department of Theory and History of Fine Arts, Moscow State University. MV Lomonosov (1930), graduate school NIKFI (1932). Before the war, he worked as an editor at Mosfilm , Soyuzfilm . The participant of the Great Patriotic War (from August 1942 correspondent of the newspaper of the Karelian Front , from January 1943 the instructor-writer of the political department of the 26th army , then the 32nd army ). He was awarded medals " For the Defense of the Soviet Arctic ", " For Victory over Germany ."
After the war, the chairman of the Council of the Union of Cinematographers on Film Education, taught at VGIK [6] , headed the Department of Film Drama [7] . The author of the pseudonym Alexander Pankratov ( Pankratov-Cherny ) [8] .
His students were screenwriter A. E. Borodyansky (1973) and many others.
