Zvezda is a Russian monthly literary magazine, published in Petrograd - Leningrad - St. Petersburg since January 1924 . It came out first 6 times a year, since 1927 it has been published monthly.

Journal History

The literary and political journal, the organ of the Union of Writers of the USSR was founded in January 1924 . The first editor of the journal was I. M. Maisky .

The journal published works by Maxim Gorky (the third book of the Life of Klim Samgin), Nikolai Zabolotsky , Mikhail Zoshchenko , Veniamin Kaverin , Nikolai Klyuev , Boris Lavrenyov (Forty-first), Osip Mandelstam , Boris Pasternak , Alexei Tolstoy , Constantin Fst, Lenderne , Constantin F, Lenderne , Constantin F, Lenten Zavolitsky; Cities and years ”,“ Brothers ”,“ Abduction of Europe ”), Vladislav Khodasevich , Yury Tynianov (“ Death of Wazir-Mukhtar ”), many other prominent Russian prose writers and poets.

The magazine was published in the years of the blockade . After the war, the magazine published works by Vera Panova, D. Granin, V. Kochetov, and Y. German.

Party Criticism

In August 1946, the journal was subjected to harsh criticism, the most famous document of which was the resolution of the Organizing Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPSU (b) "On the magazines Zvezda and Leningrad" . The resolution stated that the magazine publishes "many unprincipled, ideologically harmful works." The main mistakes of the journal in the resolution are the publications of the stories of “vulgar and scum of literature” by Zoshchenko , who “long ago specialized in writing empty, vapid and vulgar things, on preaching rotten lack of ideality, vulgarity and apoliticality, designed to disorient our young people and poison their minds "and the works of Akhmatova ," a typical representative of the alien to our people empty unprincipled poetry, "poems that" harm to the education of our youth and can not be tolerated in with etskoy literature. Current State

The editorial policy of the journal and its entire appearance have been defined since the mid-1990s. his co-editors Jacob Gordin and Andrei Aryev , as well as the head of the poetry and critics departments Alexei Purin .

The editorial board of the journal includes K. M. Azadovsky , E. V. Anisimov , I. S. Kuzmichyov , A. S. Kushner , A. I. Nezhny , Georges Niva (France), G. F. Nikolaev (Germany), V G. Popov , I. P. Smirnov (Germany).

Since the late 1990s, publisher has been working with the magazine. All-Russian and international conferences, literary evenings, meetings with well-known politicians and cultural figures are held in the editorial office regularly, exhibitions of artists are organized.

Attitudes toward authors are expressed in a standard formula, on the first page and on the journal’s website: “Manuscripts for publication in the Zvezda journal are accepted only in printed form. Manuscripts are not returned or reviewed; the editors do not enter into correspondence about them ” [1] .

In 2015, the circulation of "Stars" was reduced to 2,000 copies. Due to the fact that the magazine was on the verge of survival, the editors announced a fundraiser to continue its release on the crowdfunding platform Planeta.ru [2] .
