Russian fans are best known for their appearances for St. Petersburg Zenit . Maresh got into the club with his compatriots: at the end of the 2002 season, Zenit was headed by Czech specialist Vlastimil Petrzhela , who invited several players he knew to join his new team. The 2003 season was the most successful in the history of Zenit at that time. The team won the first silver medals in the history of the country championship, as well as the Premier League Cup. Maresh spent 26 matches in the championship of Russia, scoring two goals.
In the 2004 season, Maresh was one of the main players in the defense, while managing to attack: he scored three goals in the Russian championship, which came in the first 11 rounds. Most of the goals scored in Maresh’s St. Petersburg career came about thanks to his good heading in someone else’s penalty area when drawing standard positions. By the end of the season, Maresh was in the list of “ 33 best ” players of the championship. In the same year, as part of the Czech national team, Pavel took part in the Euro 2004 games, becoming the owner of bronze medals.
In the 2005 season, Pavel Maresh was also the main Zenit footballer, having played 26 matches in the national championship and scored 4 goals, and again entered the list of “33 best”. The 2006 season was the last for Paul at Zenit - a series of injuries prevented him from playing and returning to his level. The resignation of Petrzhela , the arrival of the Dutchman Dick Advocaat to the coaching post, at the same time as the outflow from the club of foreign football players invited by Petrzhela, left him little chance to play. Pavel spent 12 matches in the Russian championship and scored one goal. In the last days of the summer transfer window, the football player almost switched to the English club “ Bolton ”, but at the very last moment the negotiations broke down and he stayed at “Zenith”.
After leaving Zenit, Maresh’s career declined sharply, he hardly played at home and soon ended his career as a football player.
