Unlike other Presley recordings of that period, the songs for this mini-album were recorded with the participation of outside musicians who did not play with the singer. With the exception of Love Me Tender, a ballad based on a Civil War song theme, all the other songs on the album are hillbilly stylized and far from rock and roll . Presley himself did not really like them. In the final of the film, an orchestral version with altered words also sounds - it was released only in 1987 .
The record came out in monophonic sound. However, the recording itself was - for the first time in Presley's discography - carried out in two-channel mode (one for voice and one for instruments).
Due to the small volume, the mini-album is released on CDs along with the same short soundtrack for the film β Prison Rock β, which also includes different doubles of songs.
