Biography
He began self-taught, in 1930 he entered the Barcelona Art School, where he was taught by Angel Ferrand and Felix Mestres, studied for two years. His work was influenced by artists such as Bonnard , Vuillard and Rouault . He was engaged in design, worked in the cinema. After the defeat of the Spanish Republic, he moved to France ( 1939 ). His first exhibition took place in the same year in Perpignan .
In 1944 he met and made friends with Picasso , in the 1980s he dedicated a series of works to him. Until 1956 he worked in Paris, then moved to Saint-Tropez. He acted as a book illustrator ( Carmen Merimet , Gargantua and Pantagruel Rabelais ), a theater artist, including a ballet artist (in the early 1950s, he worked with Roland Petit ) and a movie where he liked to use mannequins.
In 1978, his first retrospective exhibition was held at the Paris Center Georges Pompidou. In 1984, he represented Spain at the Venice Biennale .
He was buried in Paris at the Montparnasse cemetery .
His works have been exhibited in many museums, including the San Francisco Museum of Fine Arts , the National Museum of Serbia , the Paris Museum of Modern Art , the Tate Gallery , and the British Museum .
Creativity
Claudian creativity, close to the second Paris school , developed in the direction of abstract expressionism , characterized by increased intensity of color.
Recognition
Gold Medal of the Government of Catalonia ( 1984 ).
